I have double dipped for packaging more than once. I'm a sucker for a new cover...even worse, I've double dipped simply because a newer version has a spine that looks better on my shelf and fits in better.

I throw the slipcovers away if they're not Batman-related.

Let the wailing begin.

Went to Target earlier and saw the new slipcovers for Harry Potter Blu-ray. Man are they pretty. Was sorely tempted even though I've got at least 3 copies of each movie.

Yeah, I can only go by genre because of this.

1. I always make sure to wash my hands before handling my movies. I cannot stand touching the cases/discs with sweaty grimy hands, and will even wash my hands again when the movie is over before I put it back in the case.

2. I'll wipe the slipcover/case with a glass cleaner cloth if I see any finger prints or smudges.

3. Often when going through my collection or even when I'll pick up a new title or one comes in the mail, I'll adjust the paper cover insert so that it's all even and the spine is pretty centered and none of it is peaking outside the plastic part of the case

4. Everything has to be alphabetized together. I hate categories or genres. It makes things too indecisive as far as what genre a movie belongs in etc. I mean, unless you have a super large collection, there's no need for so many categories/genres..you're not a video store It's also easier to find any movie when it's all together, you just go through your collection by title and there it is

Unless it's a truly wretched movie, I'll just keep it, it's more economical in the long run.
Words of wisdom here. I've done it, I think most of us have. Honestly do not sell. You'll drive yourself crazy when you realize you've spent $100 on a $10 dollar movie.

No disrespect taken.

I can't really explain it...I just never really felt the need to keep the slips on the disc. I guess I consider slips to be collectibles. And with all of my collectibles that come with the disc, I usually keep them safe and sound tucked away.

The Jurassic World collectible lunch box, the booklets that came with WWZ and BvS, and a bunch of other random collectibles are all tucked away and kept in pristine condition safe from the cats' claws, etc. etc. I do the same with my slips and keep them all in one general area.

Why throw them away though?

At least sell them and make some money

Everyone says that but in actual practice it's a waste of time. Judging by all of the people talking about how much they love slipcovers, I started saving mine and tried to sell them. I started a thread here, I posted some on Ebay and got little to no interest. I ended up selling them by posting them together as a lot, and wound up with a couple of bucks. It was not worth the time, money or effort for what I ended up with. Now I pitch them all in the recycling bin and lament the amount of trees killed for those useless things.

Its like throwing the way dust jacket away for a book. You killed the value on the item and it will be harder to sell. Its hard to sell just the dust jacket but the original dust jacket on a first edition books worth more money and will sell faster. You limited your resale market.

Personally When I am buying a movie used I look at the slip cover to see how a item has been treated. If the slip is still mint then the discs are almost sure to also be. If they don't have a slipcover I worry about how the movie was treated because they could not even keep track of a piece of cardboard.

I love this thread, nice to know I'm not alone in my crazy obessive habits when it comes to my movies.

I organize by genre as well as by director, it gets hard to organize by director when you get a a collection of films, i.e. Jurassic Park films. I have so many Spielberg films I usually put them in front of my JP collection on my shelf. lol

If the blu ray cases are damaged in any way, like the shrink wrap is stuck to the spine or what have you I replace them. I have a seller on eBay that I buy them from in bulk and I keep them in my office if that issue arises. Link below if anyone is interested.

I also keep my blu rays and DVDs separate. lol

Good points. I honestly don't even know how I would ship a slipcover if I did decide to sell any, other than a box lol. Seems like it would be an awful lot of work for little reward to make sure they get sent safely and securely.

That said, I did decide to go "slipless" lol. The collection looks a lot nicer this way IMO. The only one I have that really "needs" the slip is Simpsons season 20 lol. And I took it a step further and even took out any TV shows or movies that are in a box too (like the Twilight Zone complete series). It looks really nice this way.

So here's another nitpicky thing that drives me crazy: unnecessarily thick Blu-ray cases. There's no need for this most of the time lol. Disney was particularly bad with this for a while, even with their 3-disc releases! And it's still being done for 4+-disc sets. You can easily fit four discs (without stacking, either) in a regular-sized Blu-ray case lol.
