Same thing goes with The Cannonball Run. I only got that on Blu-Ray a few months ago, and i hadnt seen it probably for at least 25 years, but because i watched it quite alot when younger and it's printed in my head, the changed audio on the Blu-Ray stuck out like a sore thumb to me. Altho it didnt seem to have to many changes, apart from 2 or 3 dialogue related changes i noticed, it was the engine noises that had the most consistent change. |

Yeah, I remember you said you did that in the US thread. I probably won’t ever bother, I’m not familiar enough with the audio on this, so I’m not sure I’d notice the changes in the 5.1 track. But it’s nice to have both options there, if I ever wanted to.

[Show spoiler] is a highlight.I haven't seen it for a while (it's an [Show spoiler] they're transporting this time), but I seem to remember I liked it better than the first one (it's funnier, I think).

But for someone like myself who's seen this film tons of times and that i wasnt ever aware of this supposedly looming within the movie during all my years of my familiarity with the film, then as far as im concerned it doesn't have to affect the movie at all. Even tho there is times during the movie where she behaves moody or flippant towards him, iv just always looked at it as that's just how her character was written, and doesn't have to be viewed or tainted at all with thinking that it's reality crossing into fiction. Or im sure there's a huge chance the reason why she could possibly be described as seeming lets say....'blunt' during the movie is because maybe she was just complacent or comfortable with everyone by that time. When they did 'Smokey 2' she would of already of been seeing Burt for 3 years by then, and it also would of been at least her 3rd movie with him (and 3rd with director Hal Needham, Hooper being the 2nd movie before it) Im sure if she hated Burt that much she wouldn't of even done the movie. They was also still together in their relationship for another year or 2 after. |

This is similar to Roy Scheider not wanting to be in Jaws 2, but had to be because the possibility of a sequel was included in his contract for the first film (Richard Dreyfuss dodged a bullet on the sequel because the contract he signed was based on the film having the original ending where Hooper died). Field only did the movie due to contractual obligation, and probably with a huge pay-rise to take the sting out of it. Sequel clauses are almost impossible to break, with the underlying threat of career destruction or being sued into the poorhouse taming even the most staunch of firebrands. Sure, she had fun on the first S&TB, but she immediately regretted it, saying: "I just thought it was, you know, the end of everything that I had worked so hard to achieve..." This feeling was cemented when she was assured of winning Best Actress for Norma Rae, a film which signaled her transition to from box-office star to serious thespian, and all when S&TB producer Mort Engleberg came knocking again. Being legally arm-twisted into another Smokey & the Bandit film was exactly what she didn't want, but had no choice. Sure enough, just after filming started, she was nominated and went on to collect the Oscar on the very last day of shooting. Her two S&TB films are night and day in atmosphere. The first has an infectious sense of fun that permeated its very celluloid, sweeping along even the most miserable of viewers. The second is leaden, with an air of hostility and forced joviality that sucks the joy out of it. There are (possibly) three scenes where there is some of the old chemistry, but this is purely because the script called for them. During the famous outtakes, the actor whom laughs the least is Field, looking various degrees of irritated in most of them. It all adds up to an awkward feeling throughout the proceedings, with the overriding theme being that of "Can't we just be friends...?" Last edited by CompleteCount; 05-20-2019 at 05:42 PM. |

Sadly, DVDActive closed its doors back in January. All their links now go to that other site (presumably the new owner of the dvdactive domain name).

Shame another good one's gone. I did a couple of reviews for them, albeit a good few years ago now. You guys did way more obviously but I think that whole style of lengthy, detailed reviews is going the way of the dodo, at least when it comes to having any kind of large viewing audience.
After I quit The Digital Fix - under no pressure from anyone as I simply felt that my monolithic wall of text style just wasn't a good fit for the site any more - I was told by another contributor that the analytics showed that most people didn't make it beyond the first two paragraphs of any given review or article! I have to say I felt entirely vindicated after that, as well as feeling like a doddery old dinosaur at the same time. |
