By the way, I recently bought the Aim controller (gun) and it’s great. It really adds to the immersion. Probably best to wait for a handful more compatible games first though. |

For those who have PSVR, is Skyrim the open world game the PSVR needs? Have you played it and how are the controls with the controller versus the sticks? I wish this was 49.99 instead of 59.99, but it looks promising. I hope Fallout 4 arrives soon for PSVR.

I'm guessing the analogs would move the hands around for the Dual Shock controller. The bumper buttons move forward or back maybe. |

I'd probably advise most to wait for V2 as I'm sure they will like the V2 Dualshock 4 pads b around the same price. |

For the $350 (regular price I believe is $450) Skyrim PSVR box set, I'm guessing the box should indicate or mention HDR on the packaging somewhere to highlight the more streamlined feature. Being that it was just released, the chances seem better that it's the newer model compared to the 2016 version. I would check the details on the box though.
Here's a link to some info: "This bundle will come with the updated PS VR system featuring revised design that enables the stereo headphone cables to be integrated with the VR headset, and a slimmer, streamlined connection cable. The updated PS VR system also comes with a new Processor Unit that supports HDR pass through, enabling users to enjoy HDR-compatible PS4 content on a TV without having to disconnect the Processor Unit between the TV and the PS4." http://blog.us.playstation.com/2017/...rim-vr-bundle/ |

I'm glad to see this game offers adjustable options for the way the player moves. Looking forward to playing this game hopefully sooner than later, being one of the only open world games on PSVR, even though it's an older game I already played.

I'm going to replay my old version of Skyrim to familiarize myself again with the game play, planning to use the controller instead of sticks, as they mention the control pad controller gives smoother movement through the world. [Show spoiler] This reviewer highlights some of the unique features of Skyrim VR, with the comparison of the regular version to the VR sense of scale in the world. |

![]() I made a long post about it but my log in timed out and I forgot to copy my post before submitting so lost everything I wrote about it and don't have time to rewrite it all. Maybe not everyone wants to read a long post about it anyways. In short, yes it is the open world game the VR needed. It's really amazing. It gives you a great sense of being in another world. I never played Skyrim before so I consider myself lucky for getting to do it for the first time in VR. I did play Morrowind on the original Xbox so I get some nostalgia from that aspect because it's so much like the old Morrowind was, but better. And in VR! I'm using the regular controller for the same reason you mentioned about moving through the world smoother. I tried the move controllers briefly. While it's really fun being able to hold and swing the sword and lift your arm to cover yourself with the shield. I hated the awkward movement. That does more to take away from the immersiveness. I'd much rather be able to smoothly walk around and explore. And the combat works well with the controller anyways. I probably will experiment with the move controllers again one of these days though. But right now I'm doubting they will ever be my go to way to play. They need to figure out some way to be able to move smoothly and still have the benefit that the move controllers add to the combat too. Or they just need to invent some new type of controllers that can work that way in VR. I wonder if they already do, for the PC VR systems. After all, the move controllers were not made specifically for, or even with VR in mind at all. Right? I didn't watch the video just because of possible spoilers. Though I probably should to see their perspective on them and how they use them. Last edited by Lovemy3D; 11-30-2017 at 06:43 AM. |

I was playing it the other day for the old version in 2D via PSVR, just to re-familiarize myself with the controls and world. It's a colder part of the world, with plenty of mountains and ice/snow. My favorite areas are the open fields and the forests too, but I look forward to the interiors most of all in the VR version when I buy it soon. Glad to hear the controller is working great for the game. I agree, the ability to smoothly control your motion is the key to feeling like you're able to freely move in the game, versus being on rails or warping to areas instead of walking. I would like the Move controllers to offer maybe an analog stick per controller, if that's possible, near the thumbs, so you can use that to move around maybe. Not sure, as I haven't tried the move controllers yet due to the high price. I see they went from 80 to $100 again after that sale, but I'll hold off on them if I can enjoy most games without them. What's really cool is the PSVR and camera recognize the regular controller when held within view, and you can, depending on the game, use the controller as a weapon, gun, etc. Very glad Sony and the developers offered that key option to use the controller. Sorry to hear your prior post was lost, but thanks for the update and enjoy the game! It's an epic adventure and no doubt is amazing in PSVR, putting you directly into that world like no modern TV could ever accomplish. ![]() |

This game in VR really is the best thing to happen to VR, and probably video games in general. It's just all around an incredible experience.
The more I play it the more I just love it. I really needed this. ![]() One of the things I mentioned in the post I lost was how amazing the snow storms are. The wind whipping and blowing the snow across the rocks is such a nice touch that adds to the realism. And all of the snow flakes blowing around you and looking up at them coming down on your face. I've had quite a few of those particularly amazing wow moments in this game since I started playing. I had one last night where I was walking along and out of nowhere I hear a dragon. I was kind of out in the open and thought I was dead meat. It was night and in an icy snowy area. Wind and snow blowing. I hear the dragon howl and come flying by. I didn't know what to do so I crouched down into sneak mode and looked around. There were some bushes not far from me. So I scooted into the bushes hoping to hide from the dragon. It worked, the dragon apparently didn't see me it flew away. Then I was just sitting there, in the bushes in just kind of awe. Looking around. Peering through the snow covered branches of the bushes. I felt like I was really sitting in a forest hiding in the bushes. Sat there listening to the wind blowing, watching the snow flakes and blowing snow wisping along. A little ways off I can see a farm house, and over there the walls of a castle and a little body of half frozen water. Some walruses lumbering around the edge of the water. And I'm just sitting there thinking wow, this feels so cool, I could just remain sitting here relaxing and listening to the wind howling. Earlier, before that I had bought a house and added all the furnishings. So I was in my virtual house and it was so cozy. There is a huge fire in the center of the living area with some chairs. The game allows you to sit in the chair. So I sit down by my fire pit. And I'm thinking this is just so nice. I don't even have to play if I don't want, I can just come here and sit by my cozy virtual fire pit. Maybe read some of those books you pick up along the way. I was wondering if I could turn off the lights and just have the fire light. I actually almost tried to blow out the candles sitting on a table next to me lol. I was wondering what it might be like to sit here and take a little real life nap lol. Wake up still in VR sitting next to the fire. ![]() I've done a lot of adventuring in dark tombs and what not so far, so fun. My character is already at level 15 since starting on Monday. I still have some trouble finding the exact locations of places but that is okay. I can't seem to have the marker on just one spot on my compass. There seems to always be two of them no matter what I do. So sometimes I'm not even sure if I'm going in my intended direction. But trying to get there is half the fun anyways so whatever lol. Last night I was just trying to get to some place to talk to some guy about becoming a vampire hunter. And I end up on some other totally unrelated epic quest sailing to a different land and going to some temple and deep underground caverns. So fun. This game in VR is just brilliant. I agree, more VR open world RPG type games is going to be amazing. Skyrim VR is just the beginning of true open exploration of VR worlds. I can only imagine what is to come. I wonder if there is something new secretly in the works already. If not I'm sure developers must be looking at Skyrim VR and seeing how well it works and getting their mental wheels turning.
Wish I could play tonight for a while but I work the morning shifts on the weekends. Won't get much sleep as it is. Though can play as much as I want Monday and Tuesday. |
