That is why I qualified my statement by saying it wasn't impossible, simply highly unlikely.

Franchise fatigue strikes again! So glad it's hurting the franchises that deserve it.

Not really, but hey, it is still a huge hit worldwide.

Illumination movies only cost $75m. DM3 could make only $40m this weekend and would still be profitable.

You don't need to like the DM movies, but considering all 3 have been positively reviewed and loved by audiences, its pretty sad to be happy for it underperforming.

I think unless someone is making a White Supremacy movie or something like that, it is pretty sad to hope for ANYTHING to underperform.

I mean, I don't watch any of these animated movies, but heck ... good for them. When I was waiting for the post-credits scene after Apocalypse, they posted something like, "The production of this movie helped create 15,000 jobs and hundreds of thousands of work hours." So much goes into work like this -- granted, not everything is an X-Men movie -- but so many people work so hard, even on an indie, that WISHING for something to fail is pathetic.

Don't wish for the movie you don't like to fail. Wish for the movie you DO like to succeed. I don't know, seems simple.

It just seems like a trend of movies dying out sadly. Either they don't go as much as they did. Or they are saving up for only a few movies a year. Another could be people are tired of theaters and just wait.

That or they need to be told what to see and follow what critics say. And if critics say it bad. They go we'll just wait.

Just seems negativity spreads on here like a sickness. And it can't be cured it seems.

Ticket prices keep going up and up, which i think is the main reason so many movie underperform. People only see the ones they really want to see and wait for the others 2-3 months for digital/blu

Yeah, it explains stuff like the "must see" like Marvel or SW movies. Anything else they figure it can wait.

I think the scenario is that "blockbuster" movies will be seen in the theaters (not all the time) and dramas are at home.

I am so HAPPY that Baby Driver did well as it's Wright's best performing film yet.

Yeah, I think that's also part of it -- the window has gotten so small that you can pre-order the Blu-ray when the movie's in the theater, and get it 3 months later.

Back when you had to wait a year or so to see a film after its theatrical run, that was a different thing.

What it seems to be. I guess you could perhaps add comedies in there too. Which Is sad. Comedies are my fave genre.
