It's still a TON of fun and I thoroughly enjoyed it but in terms of pacing it's a bit of a car crash.
Yet you love the biggest car crash blockbuster this decade, Rogue One.

It's not as fun as the first. But the experience was very good in IMAX 3D. And with all the otherworldly cosmic universe in the movie, I think this will look great in Dolby Vision.
Will be going Sunday night to the Dolby Cinema to see this in HDR presentation. Excited to see how good it looks.

I won't reveal too much. But I believe Ego's planet should be a fantastic demonstration for Dolby Vision.

James Gunn also confirms scenes of Guardians of the Galaxy 2 were shot both in 2K and 4K, and that the movie switches between them.

I believe one of two things.
1. Disney was planning for a UHD release all along just using Gunn to tease us or gauge potential sales.
2. They have no plan to release any UHD tiltes this year and Gunn will get a serious time-out. Should know by October?

Heh. I didn't say that I didn't enjoy the film, I think Guardians Vol 1 is a hoot, but someone holding it up as a virtuous example of pacing and structure made me laugh. In fact I even compared Rogue's quick-fire opening to Guardians' just a few days ago, starting with the main protagonist losing their mother and being taken in by someone else during the prologue, settling into a life of crime as the movie jumps forward about 10 years and lurches from planet to planet to planet as it scrambles to set the scene. Each movie also has a big, lumbering sidekick for whom sarcasm is something of a challenge.

What can I say? I'm a mark for these movies which are choppy as balls - see also: Suicide Squad and Kong Skull Island - because in a weird way they make me work harder to connect the dots and I can still enjoy various aspects in isolation e.g. the action, the humour, the fan service, without them necessarily forming a cohesive whole. You listen to RLM too much.

Probably, but I disagree with them a lot. Their bashing of Rogue One is way overblown, especially the "too dark and gritty" nonsense. I do agree with them the plot is poorly structured and most of the characters are poorly developed though. I liked the spy guy though.

I don't really remember much about Guardians' plot structure. I do know that the second time I watched it the movie plummeted from a 5 to like a 3. It's got cool style and fun going for it, but the more attention you pay to it as a movie the more it falls apart.

I love Rogue One. In my top five movies of last year (with Hacksaw Ridge, Moana, Civil War, Moana, Patriot's Day, and Moana. Did I mention... Your Name.)

I liked it, but it's a plot and editing car crash if I ever saw one.

I think that Rogue One has it's problems. I also think that the last 30 minutes of the movie makes up for all the other problems it has. I left the theater happier with that movie than any other film in a long long time.

Just got back from seeing this. It would look incredible on a 4k Dolby Vision disc. I've never seen so many colors in a movie in my entire life. Just incredible.

I think it's a little short sighted to forget about Age of Extinction when throwing around the label of "biggest car crash blockbuster" personally. Rogue one has problems, but there are dozens of blockbusters out there that do everything far worse. Even last year Suicide Squad had far worse editing.

When this eventually gets a UHD it will be orgasmic. Even in 3D the colors in this movie were just incredible. Movie ain't bad either.

Now that the AACS 2.0 protection has just been cracked by the warez scene, it could genuinely factor into Disney's decisions. I think they should still go ahead with it sooner rather than later because most people don't pirate films, and UHD Blu-ray is a cash cow. UHD Blu-ray is outpacing the sale of 1080p blu-ray, if you're measuring the sales against where Blu-Ray was at the same point early in it's lifespan.

and this is why they should never have released a UHD drive for computers, if you can't read the disc you can't crack it.
