$45 is a reasonable price.

HBO re-releasing GOT with Atmos wouldn't have any correlation to how Warner Bros TV is going to treat this release. They are two different studios that just happen to both be distributed by Warner Home Video.

Amazon USA has a product image in place now and it matches the 'tin' described at the start of this thread.

Technically this is the first scripted television series on UHD:

You could say first scripted US television series on UHD - or the first good scripted TV series...

The release is so close to Black Friday. Should I just wait another 2 weeks after release to maybe grab it cheaper? Hmmm... I'm stuck in a maze.

Even though it's not technically their policy, my local best would still price protect a purchase for 30 days, even on a day such as Black Friday. Start getting friendly with the GM now and you'll be set by November

Yes and no. It depends how you define "thriller".

It tackles some very deep philosophical questions and the thrills come more from shocking plot twists and turns, character interactions, moments of deeper meaning, having previous scenes and storylines turned on their head as new information is revealed rather than typical action of which there is some.

It's very loosely inspired by the sci-fi thriller film of the same name, but the TV Series has so little resemblance to the film that it's hardly worth mentioning. The series is more a different take on the movie's concept; taking it in another direction and doing it (in my opinion) better.

Like a mini series version of Ex-Machina?

Sorta. They both touch on similar themes but are very different beasts.

The only tie-in to the movie is their mentioning the incident at the original theme park years ago, which follows the robots running amok and killing the guests storyline.

I don't think that's the implication. The park has been running for 34 years in the show. The "incident" is the events that happened shortly before the park opened where hosts went rogue and killed. That is not the events of the movie as that event is very relevant to the show's plot and bears no resemblance to the plot of the movie.

The TV Series is a remake/reboot of the movie and is not intended to be in the same continuity. The show's creator, Johnathon Nolan, has even gone on record saying that any references to the movie are "playful but not meant to be literal." While there are references here and there (such as the Gunslinger making a quick cameo), it's not the same continuity or canon. Just like how most remakes may have actors/characters/props from the original cameo, it doesn't mean it's the same continuity. A poster for the movie even appears in the background of one of the sets confirming the movie is just a movie in the Westworld TV Series universe.

Yeah. To be expected really. Season 2 won't air until Summer 2018 at the earliest so we're lucky we're getting a release this year since HBO rarely release a show on Blu-Ray until it's close to the airdate of the next season (see: Game of Thrones). I imagine since they still don't know when Season 2 will air and Season 1 will likely win big at the Emmys, they're releasing it this year. Plus November is a few weeks after Season 2 begins filming, so they can easily include a sneak peek at Season 2 on the Season 1 UHD as an extra incentive.

I guess I am really intrigued by the whole "mini series in HDR + Dolby Atmos" thing

the price though.. Planet Earth 2 4K was also up and down on the high side, but got down to 29$ when it was released, couldn't this be the same case?
