They are new HD Transfers so maybe they will be coming to Blu-ray in the near future.
I hope so.

Probably. I think a lot of the Weinstein catalog is going OOP as the rights shift to Paramount.

Is that when they bought the Miramax catalog?

Looks like this is now OOP and going for $30+ used online.

I found a used copy at a local store for $10! Even still had the digital copy slip which worked on Vudu. Although I had to find the film by clicking redeem code then searching the movie. The film's Vudu page doesn't give you any option to buy, rent, or redeem.

No, Paramount bought Miramax, not The Weinstein Company.

The Amityville franchise is now a big mess. It is now bombarded with really low budget films that are barely watchable.

Isn't the story public domain or something so anyone can make a movie about it?

The name is public domain so yeah anyone with an idea can make a film and call it an Amityville film. That said I really enjoyed Awakening right from my first viewing and feel it holds up well. I'd rate it in the top 3 of Amityville films easily and hands down it's the most polished of any of them, including the original/remake despite there larger budgets.

Amityville itself is a real place so anybody can (and does) make a movie called "Amityville: Fill in The Blank." But the original Amityville Horror story is still under copyright and trademarked.

I enjoyed The Awakening as well. But one thing I would love is a special edition release that includes the original R rated version, and all the deleted scenes possible, since stuff is glimpsed in the trailers that are not in the movie. Since it had such a trouble production/release history. It'd be nice to have something that puts it all together.

Totally agree. Just did a rewatch of the series last week.

New ranking:

1. Amityville II: The Possession
2. Amityville: It's About Time
3. Amityville: The Awakening
4. The Amityville Horror (1979)
5. Amityville 3-D
6. Amityville: A New Generation
7. Amityville: Dollhouse
8. Amityville: The Evil Escapes

So does Paramount own the US rights to this now?

Watched this today and thought it was decent. Some good jump scares and Bella Thorne is easy on the eyes and was good in the lead.
