I doubt the announcement will have anything to do with a new movie. I bet it's gonna be about something boring, like 4k UHD or a new video game.

I'd happily take 4K versions of Alien and Aliens.

Everything past that has been a waste of time IMO.

If we're getting a fresh 4K scan for both cuts of Alien 3, i'll be a very happy man.

It's likely going to be 4K UHDs for Alien and Aliens, though.

I hope the first thing Disney do when their buyout is complete, is plan to boot Ridley from this and start approaching James Cameron about a doing a PROPER "Aliens" sequel that ignores all the others (exactly like he and Tim Miller are doing with Terminator)

If we got an Alien movie announced being produced/directed by both of these guys (cameron/Miller), that was rated R and a part of a brand new announced Disney R movie division, how excited would people be really. (that also announced Weaver and Biehn returning etc)

I would be absolutely pumped. (like I am about the new Terminator movie)

Eh, I love Alien 3 and enjoyed Prometheus.

Alien Covenant can go jump off a cliff alongside Alien Resurrection. The AVP films can remain, though.

Alien and Aliens are masterpieces. I don't dislike Alien 3 and Alien Resurrection as much as I used to. Prometheus is so stupid that it is offensive. Covenant is a turd. Let it die.

And yet you watched Covenant anyway and will almost surely watch whatever Alien film they make next.

...which is exactly why it will never die.

I've always said,

Make the first two be the only ones that are Canon and work from there.

I've always thought they should have done a Coloniel Marines spin-off movie. Doesn't even need to involve an Alien per say considering they deal with all kinds of different situations.

For the first time in ages, Ridley Scott seems unenthusiastic and reticent about the future of the franchise. Talking to Yahoo! Movies UK, he seems to imply (rightfully so) that without H.R. Giger the uniqueness of the Alien lore will be hard to duplicate.

“I saw the drawing – the drawing was drawn for the book, not the film – and I was so kind of taken, I flew to Switzerland where he lived because he didn’t want to get the plane as he was scared of flying. I met him in Zurich at his home and I persuaded him to travel by train to come to England and live at Shepperton studios for ten months. And he did.

“It wouldn’t have been the same movie,” he continued. “Whilst the cast was wonderful, with Sigourney [Weaver] and Harry [Dean Stanton] and those people, but without that eighth passenger it wouldn’t have been the same film.”

“What I’m trying to say is that there are rarities, there are those [ideas] that occur once in the while, not that often, but when they do grab them and hang on to them.”

Even the worst alien movies (I don't count avp2) have something entertaining about them. Bring on more trash I say. At the very least covenant was beautiful looking.

Alien and Aliens are classics some of the best movies ever made.

Alien 3 was so-so. 4 was terrible
AVP was ok
AVP2 unwatchable
Prometheus continues to grow on me
Covenant not so bad either.

Same, for some reason Prometheus gets better the more you watch it. I still prefer the alternative take on the mutant attack on the ship loading bay and wish that was the one used instead but apart from that it's a solid entry to the franchise, Covenant isn't bad but feels very small scale compared to Prometheus which was a disappointment and the a let down that the engineer planet was basically a large town without any history or lore behind it.

Nuke Ridley Scott from orbit, it's the only way to be sure.
