Let me 'pitch in' with a couple of nostalgic 'UK TV from the past' series

I remember those two shows very well indeed. Dempsey was the American if I recall. The Darling Buds Of May was one of those shows that I dipped into from time to time and I did enjoy the episodes I watched. Good choices Malagant.

The name rings a bell, is it the one that Channel 4 used to show? I seem to remember them showing a soap shortly after the channel was launched.

Yeah that’s it mate.

Although it lost its edge in the latter years, it was a cracking soap in its time. The later episodes were only worth watching for Jennifer Ellison’s breasts

Absolutely loved watching those along with my Dad. There seem to be several DVD releases of them through different companies. I wonder which offers the best picture quality.

That's a difficult one. The two images you've put up appear to be from a company called 'Wienerworld' (according to Amazon). I haven't any discs from this company that I'm aware of, so I can't say whether they do a decent job or not. This is the sort of thing you'd expect someone like Network to release, and in my experience they do a pretty good job with their transfers.

I mostly remember Rocketman but can you remember the others? I vaguely remember a serial set in the jungle (wasn’t Tarzan)

There was a show called Paradise Island with William Franklyn which was about two guys (can't recall the name of the other fella) who were shipwrecked on an island. Don't know if this is the one you meant, but it only ran for a very short while anyway. This would have been mid to late 70's sometime.

No mate, it was those old serials that had a cliffhanger every episode with the characters in huge peril.

Fair enough mate, I had a feeling it probably wasn't the one you meant. Besides, from what I can remember I think Paradise Island only had a handful of episodes anyway, and didn't appear to have much success on TV.

Thanks Tob. I even remember seeing a couple of them including Fantastic Voyage back in the late 80's when ITV used to show films in the early hours of the morning, and I used to stay up late to catch them. Didn't have a video at the time.

Spot on there mate. I felt ITV was better when it used to have regional broadcasters (in my case it was Granada) rather than having it nationally as ITV 1. Yes, we still have regional news bulletins, but it's not the same though.

That and X Factor, Britain’s Got Talent. It’s lowest common denominator tv in my opinion. Also hate the way the crowds sometimes laughs at people, just seems like trash to me.
