This is great John, it looks like we have a new 4King player.

* @Robert, you would need a high end analog rig to hear a sound quality for the better. Perhaps that New Technics turntable.

I my high-end 2-channel critical listening system the big advantage I can appreciate is the large dynamic tonal range and clarity and detail of every note. My strong suite if video, but I would think some of the advantages I'm enjoying are related to the Total Harmonic Distortion plus Noise spec of my system.
As you probably know people that look for the range and clarity don't quibble about money much. It's a nice hobby! I really like when you can pair a excellent music BD with a good audiophile system with a good display. Chris Botti or David Foster for example. Eagles farewell tour BD is another wonderful demo to take in.

Love your music choices! I see Chris Botti at the Blue Note in NYC every year for the past 15+ years. Best Blue Note live concert of the year.

I may have missed it, but any idea if the new Pioneer will have 3D blu ray playback capability?

What interests me most about this player is how it's going to handle HDR; for $1000 I hope it features some pleasant surprises for us. Back on page 3, in post #55, JohnAV posted a photo of a sheet that had some limited spec listings. One of those is "SDR/HDR Preset Mode for optimal performance for the display".

I'm wondering if that could translate into something akin to Panasonic's HDR optimizer, adjusting the tone mapping in-player for TVs with lower-peak brightness, whether OLEDs or lower-priced LCDs.

It's touted as a universal player, so presumably it should be able to play 3-D blu-rays. I believe Samsung is the only manufacturer foolish enough to actually remove that feature from players that are supposedly premium.

Onkyo / Pioneer will not be attending IFA 2018, according to the latest edition of Germany's Audiovision magazine.

Only Yamaha will still be there. It's sad to see that more and more AV manufacturers no longer showcase their latest products there.

Interesting you still had a listing for Pioneer Electronics Deutschland, Zweigniederlassung der Pioneer Europe NV in Hall 1.2 212.

The timing of the two shows has got to be not great for some exhibitors as IFA Berlin is Aug 31st to Sept 5th where as CEDIA San Diego runs Sept 4th thru 8th. CEDIA shows both ONKYO USA Corp and Pioneer Electronics (USA) Inc in a booth (3826).
So look at both shows for more info.

Even if Pioneer Electronics is now owned by Onkyo, they still seem to be afforded to act as a fairly independent subsidiary of them.

They are still orientated to making a range of products from modest priced to premium components.

The earlier BDP-85FD and BDP-88FD were $1000, $2000. That was back in 2014. Its was the Oppo-103 that sold for $499, Oppo-105 that sold for $1199 that were both more feature laden, equivalent build qualify, CI features, that caused major grief for Pioneer sales I would imagine.

So here we are 4 years later it will be interesting to see what price points are selected at CEDIA as Robert has now changed the OP of this thread to state that Pioneer requested advanced details on Value Electronics to be removed.

Well I hope this player still sees a USA release. It is not a good sign that Pioneer requested the specs for the player to be removed from the website.

At the IFA 2018, the Pioneer 4K Blu-ray Player UDP-LX500 will be presented to European audiences for the first time. After the event in September, the model should then already in October 2018 for 999 € (EIA) come on the market. Sales will certainly be made through specialist dealers and selected online shops.

Press release Pioneer:

Willich, August 23, 2018 - Home cinema and hi-fi specialist Pioneer introduced the first true universal disc player around 15 years ago and made a dream come true for movie and music lovers: at last there was a high-quality player, the CD, DVD, DVD-Audio, DVD-Video and SACD reproduced in the same way. Since then, the number of disc formats has increased significantly, while at the same time the technical demands have risen dramatically - time for the UDP-LX500, which now also reproduces the new Ultra HD Blu-rays with their enormous image resolution, but at the same time with classic audio Disc formats and analogue sound no compromise.

"Pioneer has many years of experience producing reference-level optical disc players, and has proven its expertise with legendary models such as the BDP-LX91 (2008) and BDP-LX88 (2014) on several occasions - the new new Universal Disc Player UDP-LX500 fits seamlessly into this line of outstanding products, "explains Jürgen Timm, PR & Product Manager at Pioneer & Onkyo Europe GmbH.

Large format variety needs a lot of experience and competence

Universal players pose particularly great challenges to their developers because of the large number of different disc specifications. At this point, Pioneer benefits especially from its decades of experience and many of its own fundamental developments in this field. This guarantees that every audio or video disc runs reliably and that the potential of the image and sound data stored on it is fully realized. It does not matter if you shoot pure HiRes audio formats such as SACD or DVD-Audio in the drive, or the hugely high-resolution new Ultra HD Blu-rays that deliver images at four times the resolution of the previous Full HD video format. Of course, the contrast and color space enhancements Dolby Vision and HDR10 are fully supported, which enable brilliantly lifelike light dynamics on compatible displays.

Unmatched performance - also mechanical

Sensitive optical read processes, high disc speeds of up to 5000 rpm, extreme data rates, powerful processors and analog audiophile circuits under one roof - so that even with external vibrations, for example in a home theater, Pioneer has the individual modules in the UDP -LX500 assigned separate sections. The floating drive is completely encapsulated, for example, the sheets used for this purpose contribute to the additional stiffening of the typical Pioneer honeycomb embossing. Also, the drawer as a potential gateway for external vibrations was mechanically sedated with a special coating. The case is made of extra thick metal and rests on a 2-ply baseplate with 3mm thick sheet steel - an unwavering base for the highest picture and sound quality, bringing the total weight of the player to an impressive 10.3kg.

Quality optimization for audiophile claims

An additional pure audio player is no longer necessary with the Pioneer UDP-LX500, because the Universalplayer becomes if necessary at the push of a button music specialist. Its two-channel audio area is located on its own board in the right third of the player, cleanly separated from the video and digital circuits, which can also be completely deactivated by Direct mode when not in use. If the sound is to be transmitted digitally via HDMI to the receiver, the "Pioneer Quartz Lock System" PQLS in conjunction with compatible receiver models ensures jitter-free, so perfectly stable data streams and audible superior sound. The two HDMI outputs of the UDP-LX500 also allow a separate output of video and audio data via their own HDMI cables. Further fine tuning is made possible by the zero-signal connection, which establishes equipotential bonding between the player and the receiver with a standard RCA cable, thus making the entire signal transmission even more sturdy and more stable.

Informative, intuitive, comfortable - with every disc

The UDP-LX500 would not be a real pioneer if it did not offer the proverbial ease of use of its predecessors and would make it even more crucial. No matter what disc is in the drawer: The UDP-LX500 loads them quickly, analyzes the content and presents it clearly on an on-screen info board dar. The navigation is thanks to the clear illuminated remote control even in darkened rooms unerringly from the hand , If the Pioneer UDP-LX500 as part of the regular development abzulernen skills, these firmware updates either via network or USB without much effort their way to the player. This ensures that the UDP-LX500 also meets the latest state of the art in the future.

Availability

The Pioneer UDP-LX500 (999, - Euro) will be available from qualified retailer from October 2018.

Other than the formats supported, nothing about how HDR will be handled yet.
