They can fix the shot of Simba chasing after Mufassa's ghost by re-inserting the rolling clouds.

Should Toy Story have film grain? Those digital files in original release were written to film, too. Toy Story's original theatrical presentation was a film print, not a digital file projected via a digital projector...yet I never hear anyone asking for a home video release derived from a scan of Toy Story's *film* negative. The way I see it, traditional animation's final output is film. It should be shown with the grain intact.

With Toy Story, the final output is digital. You also lose picture quality if you scanned a film out.

With CAPS titles I can see merits either way- accessing the CAPS files directly would be the highest quality source.

However, these titles were all printed to film and keeping a filmic look is preserving the original theatrical look and feel.

If Disney uses the CAPS files directly I would be fine with it (not sure if they can) but if they scan a film out, the grain should be left intact. It also avoids all the annoying smearing, etc that DNR can cause.

ideally, but with some of the recent bluray releases of Animated Classics from Disney Home Video, the striping away of grain has been a bit extreme and not in the good sense.

They already fixed it in the current Blu-Ray.

^ I wouldn't be holding my breath... There has been a couple of Disney titles not affected by the audio troubles. Hopefully they put the legacy audio from blu-ray on there. They really ought to be doing that as practice!

It's not about fixing "imperfections" dude, it's about improving dynamic range and color.

I'm not exactly sure how this works, but certain 1080p movies on my 4K TV look brighter and more color-saturated. I sometimes can't decide which is the more appropriate look for the movie.

They're not going to come out with anything more understated or classy than the Viva Metal Box that was released as a Best Buy US/Future Shop exclusive for the 3-D release in 2011.



I'll be tossing out the DVD from that set and replacing it with the upcoming 4K disc.
