The films on this week's edition of The Film Review (cinema, DVD, Blu-ray and streaming releases), presented by Anna Smith:

The films on this week's edition of The Film Review (cinema, DVD, Blu-ray and streaming releases), presented by Mark Kermode and Ben Brown (in the BBC Television Centre studio):

- Rose Plays Julie
- Gunpowder Milkshake
- The Starling
- Best Out: Herself
- UHD Blu-ray release: A Clockwork Orange.

Some of the clips they showed of Rose Plays Julie looked a bit vertically stretched to me.

They were and then went to the correct ratio. Somebody done ****ed up...

Ben (thank you very much indeed) Brown should never present this programme. I know he does it in-between the news but he is annoying. Now, Jane Hill, who admits to hating all horror related stuff, is good... Except when a horror film is being reviewed, which sort of defeats the point.

I was thinking something similar about presenter Ben Brown, back when The Film Review was in the studio. He looks like he doesn't want to present it (it's part of his contract with the BBC?), at times sounding sarcastic and looking like he's bored. Yet Jane Hill is the opposite, even though (repeating what you've said) there is that recurring gag about her not liking horror films. At times though she can be a bit snobby (which Mark Kermode can be like sometimes). There have been other rotating presenters of the show, including the newsreader who does a humourous programme on weekday afternoons (can't remember his name, but he looks like the actor who played Tony Stamp on The Bill) and a blonde female newsreader who has piercing blue eyes.

Whomever presents the 5pm news does the film review slot too. Wouldn't say Jane Hill was snobby, just very timid with anything scary. Bless.

Kermode has always been a loathe him or hate him character.

The Tony Stamp imposter has to be Simon McCoy who left the beeb a while ago to be a presenter on that GB News channel. His greatest half hour was the Basil Brush interview which was very funny. IMHO.

The films on this week's edition of The Film Review (cinema, DVD, Blu-ray and streaming releases), presented by Mark Kermode and Ben Brown (in the BBC Television Centre studio):

- The Many Saints of Newark (big-screen prequel to The Sopranos)
- The Green Knight
- Gagarine
- Best out: Rose Plays Julie
- Re-issue: Dune (the original).

Love Twin Peaks myself, but Steedeel I know you also will have really enjoyed Mark Kermode talking about prequel Fire Walk with Me when the re-issue of the original Dune was talked about (he also spoke about Blue Velvet, which I was also glad to hear).

Thanks, he said it was one of the best horror films of recent times If I recall correctly.

Very interested in The Green Knight, it looks like a stunner.

It should be available on the BBC iPlayer, this week's edition. His comments about Fire Walk with Me were very positive (he was comparing it to the Sopranos prequel).

Today was the first I'd heard of The Green Knight (I don't usually take too much notice of what the reviewers say in the 'i' newspaper (who can be a bit snobby, which they no doubt will be about Halloween Kills. But like I think I said in the Movies sub-forum recently, you should judge for yourself whether a film is good or not (in the case of the new Halloween film, poster Samuel Loomis said some very helpful things about it), but they gave it five stars in today's edition).

The best critics are ourselves, like you say.

Really excited with the mixture of films I have secured on Blu-ray/4K to watch next year. 1 per week for film night (52) and then around 30 to keep for over Xmas and various holidays throughout the year.

The Green Knight was on that list and will be available on German Blu-ray from Dec and 4K in USA.

UltraMario, thanks for posting the Mayo & Kermode radio show review of Halloween Kills. I will watch/listen to it next week after I've been to see the film.

Each week's new edition of The Film Review is first shown around a quarter to six on Friday afternoons/evenings. However, I think due to a news story this afternoon the first showing of this week's edition has been postponed to later on tonight (around a quarter to midnight).
