An epic movie like this deserves a first watching in the theaters. Only 10 days left until it starts showing on 15 September.

When I pre-ordered the UHD from Arrows UK site, the extras listed the new documentary THE SLEEPER WILL AWAKEN. Now this entry is gone. Has this extra been dropped from this release?

I just checked the bookings and in my city the best seats are already taken for the first week of showing. Already ~70% seats occupied 10 days in advance, including 10% for some non-reservable Corona blocker seats placed with unclear strategy.
So it looks like this is attracting a lot of interest. I guess people really want to get back to the movies and this is the first block buster for a long time post-corona panic. Due to this I might have to resort to watching the 4K BD of A Clockwork Orange on the first weekend that Dune 2021 is showing in the cinema, assuming I get it delivered early on Friday (as often happens) instead of the following Monday as promised by the delivery date on 20 September. ACO on 4K BD is not a bad substitute though. ![]() ![]() |

A Brazilian critic from Critics Choice Association, OFCS and Film Independent, living in LA, will post a video with his first considerations. More professionals reviewers will do it too. Will try to post a couple here.

Honestly surprised 2049 did so poorly, but I don't think it was marketed well. Also didn't help old timers were trashing it before it came out, cause you can't make a sequel to Blade Runner! But as far as most are concerned Blade Runner was just that dorky movie from the 80s, so it was never going to be a big hit. Still annoys me cause it's probably one of the better Sci-Fi films in the last decade. I would even be so bold to say it's a better movie. Sadly I believe you are correct this Dune movie probably won't do too well. I fear it will suffer the same fate as Lynch's movie. The fact it's a "Part 1" but not even marketed that way is probably going to put people off when they get to the end. The middle of the book is hardly "climatic". I just hope Villeneuve gets to make Part 2 at least. Even if it could have been a hit, the pandemic has likely spoiled that by now. |

I think the cast might help here. Ryan Reynolds hasn’t had any blockbusters at the box office so that never helped BR2049. There’s at least someone in the Dune cast for everyone to thirst over. Zendaya is huge, Chalamet is respected and this is his first “big” movie, Oscar Isaac is just …dreamy, Rebecca Ferguson is lethal, Dave Bautista, Josh Brolin…
Once marketing picks up some we’ll get a better sense of how it’ll do and I wager that even with the pandemic it might do as good if not a little better than BR2049, which domestically grossed only $90m *total.* Shang-Chi did that opening weekend with a million articles and YouTube videos screaming that it’d flop and a CEO treating it as “an experiment,” so the numbers are possible against some odds. I bet it won’t be the worst HBO Max release this year either, which will also probably help some. |
