Reference the Cellar Club, Caroline Munro often makes the segments entertaining as she worked with many veterans when she was younger and has a lot of interesting stories/experiences. I've noted that TPTV now have a Westerns segment Wednesday afternoons (repeated Sunday mornings) bookended by "Saddle Up" segments which are of the same general format but presented by someone called James Stephens (who I don't know at all and will have to google to see if I can find out more) who tried and failed at a Western accent in the first batch this week and seemed to mostly be reading autocue. I appreciate that it takes time to settle down when presenting though, so hopefully he will improve. I can see that Westerns should be popular with the channel demographic. However, as they were all filmed in the US, it must be difficult to find a good presenter. No one who acted in Westerns is going to fly over to the UK every week to film ten minutes presenting these segments and then fly back again... Regarding the long travel reel, yes I saw the white topped boat that looked like it might be Amsterdam. One place I think I did know is that shot of the yellow palace with the gardens out front and the fountains, looked like the Hapsbergs palace in Vienna, which I visited in 2017. In one of the rooms of that palace a young boy of 12 called Amadeus Mozart played music for the young Princess and told her he would marry her someday. *folds arms* We are the Forum detectives ![]() |

Re-reading your post about the western series Maverick in the Miscellaneous Corner thread Cutback, made me think about something I read about the series a few months ago, a look at the series, including when Sir Roger Moore replaced James Garner. Moore's brief run on the show was not that long before he started work on The Saint.
And onto yesterday evening's episode of The Saint, "The Pearls of Peace". Based on what someone posted on TPTV's Facebook page this past weekend, this episode and the one shown the Sunday before last ("The Arrow of God") were shown the wrong way round. I quite liked the way the story was told in yesterday evening's episode [Show spoiler] My one complaint, is that [Show spoiler]

One of the reasons I enjoy The Footage Detectives is seeing what happens at the end with Mike and Noel doing their 'serious' bouncer-style act saying "the footage detectives" with crossed arms. I was creased up with yesterday's ending ("a bit butch" and "one of us was" ![]() Eventually, I will watch one of the westerns with it's introduction. This past weekend, I watched two of the films from last Friday night's Cellar Club, The Return of Dracula and The Vampire, as well as a film shown yesterday (Sunday), Offbeat (the cast including William Sylvester and Anthony Dawson). Out of the three, I enjoyed The Vampire the most. |

Didn't get round to posting my comments last week about last Wednesday night's episode of The Champions. This episode, whose guest stars included Kate O'Mara, was my favourite episode so far. Had a more grounded storyline to me. There was good use of (I assume) London locations and the story kept my interest all the way through.
As for yesterday evening's episode of The Saint, quite enjoyed it, although it seemed like Sir Roger Moore didn't have as much screentime [Show spoiler] The guest stars included David Bauer (a few years before his appearance on The Champions, repeated a few weeks ago by Talking Pictures TV, and nearly a decade before he played Mr. Slumber in Diamonds Are Forever). The story was dictated a bit by one of the characters being a lawyer, so for a lot of time the episode was stuck in a courtroom, but Templar's plan which [Show spoiler]

Didn't enjoy last night's episode of The Champions as much as last week's, but it had some interesting guest stars (can't remember his name, but he appeared in the pre-credits sequence of You Only Live Twice. Also guest-starring were Patrick Magee and Steven Berkhoff (the latter billed as Stephen Berkhoff).
Looking forward to this coming Sunday afternoon's new edition of The Footage Detectives (checked the TV schedule on Talking Pictures TV's website last week and new editions are continuing into June), partly because they're doing a segment about Edgar Lustgarten (think I've seen the TV series Scotland Yard mentioned somewhere, either on TPTV's website or Facebook page). Would like to see them do a segment about the Danziger brothers, but I'm not sure if the channel has shown any of their TV series. |

Wouldn't say yesterday evening's episode of The Saint was one of my favourites, but it had an interesting guest cast (Shirley Eaton, George Pravda and Paul Stassino, all before they appeared in a Bond film).
Also watched this past weekend, a British film called The Switch, whose cast included Zena Marshall (the year the film is credited with was the year after she starred in the first Bond film Dr. No). There was less talking from Mike and Noel in yesterday afternoon's new edition of The Footage Detectives (recovering from the Talking Pictures TV convention the weekend before last?). The highlight for me was the segment about Edgar Lustgarten. I did chuckle for a brief moment at the beginning of one of the Youth Club short films, as it reminded me of my favourite Benny Hill sketch, The Passengers of Love. Forgot to say last week that I enjoyed the Sid James segment on The Footage Detectives. |

The TV schedule section on Talking Pictures TV's website was updated yesterday. New editions of The Footage Detectives continue towards the middle of June. But also, their repeat run of the monochrome episodes of The Saint go straight into the second series in the first half of June.

I don't think it is them, but the narrator who has been heard towards the beginning of every or nearly every episode of The Champions so far (tonight's episode is called "The Ghost Plane") sounds a bit like actor David Bauer.
Watched last night a fifties British film called The Voice of Merrill (whose cast included James Robertson Justice). The transfer/picture definitely hadn't had a restoration (certainly compared to The System, shown last Sunday afternoon on TPTV, whose transfer looked very nice). Have recorded from earlier today, western The Secret of Convict Lake (with it's Saddle Up! introduction by James Stephens, the first introduction and western I've recorded on the channel). |

Watched western The Secret of Convict Lake last night. On the whole, I quite liked it. One thing which I'm curious about, is whether Talking Pictures TV did a deal for all these 20th Century Fox films before Disney ended up owning the 20th Century Fox film and TV library (or is it different with TV screenings compared to physical media releases?).
On a separate note, have set to record next Thursday evening (26th May) a documentary called Behind the Camera: Peter Cushing (airing on TPTV at 5.30 pm - 6.10 pm), as well as A Celebration of Nettlefold Studios and Cecil Hepworth (airing on Monday 23rd May at 5.40 am - 6 am). Premiering on TPTV a week on Sunday (29th May) is film Cause for Alarm! (whose cast includes Barry Sullivan). Going to watching this one as the plot sounds good and Barry Sullivan is among my favourite actors. |

cutback, have TPTV shown Callan and Hazell before? Checked the channel's website earlier, and the TV schedule section has been updated with two weeks' worth of TV schedules added. After having a quick look at them, I spotted the start of a repeat run of both Callan and Hazell.

The same, enjoyed the Sir Christopher Lee documentary more than the Peter Cushing one. I agree with what Caroline Munro said during the Cellar Club introduction, the interview documentary should have been longer, as it was a fascinating listen and watch.

Hadn't enjoyed as much the past two or three new editions of The Footage Detectives, but I certainly did with yesterday afternoon's new edition (plenty of Mike and Noel's comedy routines/conversations) The jubilee celebrations didn't overwhelm this new edition (I enjoyed the Platinum Jubilee concert this past Saturday night, as well as what I saw of the parade yesterday afternoon). They were the theme of some of the segments/features (I forgot to record the interview programme about the Queen's horses from the mid-eighties).
As for what was (in production order) the last episode of the first series of The Saint (cutback, is it correct that the first produced series/season of The Saint was broken up into two blocks? I read on Talking Pictures TV's Facebook page recently that the various ITV regions showed different episodes, not in the same order as stated on EpGuides for example), "The Man Who Was Lucky" was one of my favourite episodes so far, in what has been an uneven series so far (the episode got better as it went on (including a clever plan against the main villain), ending in a very satisfying way). |

I enjoyed the episode with the man who was blinded in Baja area of Mexico (otherwise known as Pinewood studios 😅 ![]() Re Footage Detectives, i thought this episode was the best I've seen, a good mix of content, great colour footage of 1937. A nice tribute to Peter Bowles too and I'll have to look out for when they broadcast that rare film that they tracked down from 1962! |

A question: is there anything in those two mugs in front of Mike and Noel on each edition? This question is meant in a humorous way. |

Have checked Sky's TV listings tonight, and the first episode of Hazell is being shown at midnight - 1 am next Thursday (technically, late Wednesday night, following the next episode of The Champions). Callan will follow afterwards at 1 am (I know some episodes of this series are missing).

Re the broadcast of Callan, only episode 1 and 6 exist from the first series. There are more episodes available from series 2, although TPTV don't show some that are included on the dvd set (I think because they are a collection of previously lost and already existing episodes, the rights must lie between different companies depending on who found them/restored them). Its a miracle they exist at all! Series 3 and 4 were made by Thames in colour when they took over the channel from ABC and are complete. |

EDIT: Sorry about that - duplicated post caused by glitching app on my phone. Thankfully the glitch went away when the app updated (Google Play Services).
PS I think the mugs are empty - waiting for Noel to do a coffee run! Last edited by cutback73; 06-18-2022 at 04:08 PM. |

Eventually, I'm going to get Network's various DVD releases of Callan, including the one release which is a documentary with a few bonus features (including an Edward Woodward music special). Think there was a book as well. |
