the HBO Max version is worthless to me, it's in the 4x3 aspect ratio which is an instant turnoff

kinda reminds me of when Prime used the 4x3 VHS master for The Abyss

I'm guessing the more recent digitally shot UHD's SS have been releasing entail quite a lot less work than this is going to?

I think this UHD is the first time the OCN has been touched since 1986. I do not believe Studio Canals dvd from 2003 used it as the source for their master.

So hopefully its in good shape.

I don’t know anything more than what youse guys do at this point. But restorations take time, so people need to chill.

Exactly... and they only found one negative, not all of them. It will take loads of time

I still can’t believe we’re actually getting a 4K UHD of The Hitcher with a new scan from the original camera negative. It’s already the release of the year for me.

I think this will tie Drive 4K for me, for the release of the year. Nothing else near them.

I’m concerned this is going to end up DNR’d to death, given Geoff D’s recent comment in another thread where he said something like he was helping out with a highly anticipated, director-approved transfer and he was shocked at how scrubbed it was, but there’s nothing anyone could do about it because, yeah, “director approved” and all.

I guess we’ll see…!

How strange a world it is when we must now fear the actual director's involvement with new releases to home video. 🤯

It's very strange that directors whom on the whole we as fans revere seem to know precious little about how their own films should ideally be presented on home video.

There's a thin line between genius and goat.

That is a heck of an elitist statement. A movie's director doesn't understand how his/her film should be presented on home video. Amazing.

Now I'll sit back and wait for all the hate.
