yes colin had a disgusting 80s porn mustache
still this is a masterpiece!
many people didn't like it because they were expecting miami vice the tv show.
funny thing is all the very intelligent friends i have loved it, the simpler minded
ones hated it
i guess its not everybody's cup of tea, but i just loved the whole mood, atmosphere and the cinematography. as always mann's choice of music
was amazing too.
not the greatest jamie foxx fan either, but i don't hate movies because of
certain actors (unless sarah jessica parker is in it ).
just the amount of research and detail mann put into this film is outstanding.
the biggest complaint i hear from people is that their "wasn't enough action".
well yes, there is not an explosion every five minutes, but i love the realistic
feel and eye candy.

This is a very good movie and very underrated but its far from the best film of 2006. That would go to either The Pursuit of Happyness or The Departed. Got Em!!

Going into this film I thought it was gonna be bad as I didnt like either choice for the male lead parts. After viewing the film, I was pleasantly surprised thought both guys did a great job and I like the film a lot. Got Em!!

This movie never goes on sale! I unfortunately passed on it when a guy by me was selling it for $7 on Craigslist, and I've regretted it ever since.

Vice is my favorite 80s show ever, and probably in my top five favorites overall. The movie is COMPLETELY different than the show. That doesn't mean it was bad, as I enjoyed the movie very much.

Foxx was ok but it was well reported that he had a terrible diva attitude during production, which was right after his Ray Oscar win. Some of the cast/crew were frustrated with him and his demands during the shoot.

A lot of people also think Farrell was miscast but it's really tough to argue that when Sonny is written as a completely different character than what we saw on the show.

I actually think the movie is a LOT like the first couple of seasons of the show (i.e. before the show lost it's edge). This is not a criticism aimed at you, but it amazed me how many were expecting pastels and day glo along with a bunch of winks to the 80's. What they got was a modern, life like retelling of how today's drug trade works coupled with Mann's signature cinematic style. One of my favorite blus.

The Movie was a remake of a two part episode of the TV show. The we can close each others eyes scene in Colombia is almost word for word taken from the TV show, the background and time frame are fast forwarded to present day.

IMO Miami Vice is Mann's 2nd best movie behind Heat, Collateral is 3rd. Great movie and a must own.

Regardless of your opinion of the movie (I love it, personally), I don't think it can be denied how awesome it looks and sounds on blu-ray. Many of the scenes have such a natural, surreal look and I think that translates really well on blu. A lot of that can be attributed to Mann's shooting and lighting style, but either way, it looks great.

I really love the way you can see forever into the night sky when Mann shoots digital. That "surreal" quality you mention is spot on.

I somehow ended up with the copies. First I got it on DVD in Australia (theatrical). Then I bought the blu ray, thinking it was the DC, but wasn't (Aus release). Then I finally got the US blu ray.

Love the film.

The colors/characters and themes made Miami Vice. The city was a huge reason the show was successful, and vice versa, with the 80s South Beach boom. To take those elements out and say that the movie was like the first few seasons of the show isn't going to work for me.

Crockett was a somewhat fun by nature character during the early seasons of the show. The Crocket in the movie is more like his troubled S4/S5 self, after the death of a reoccuring character. I don't believe Farrell smiled during the entire movie!

Mr. Useless said it best:

Quote:
After reading a whole bunch of reviews about how this movie version is SOOOOOO much different from the TV series, I'm convinced none of those critics has ever seen a full episode of Miami Vice. All they remember is the hokey jokes, corny songs, Ray-ban shades, pastel suits, and sockless white shoes. This movie is EXACTLY like the series. I own, and recently watched all of the 1st and 2nd seasons of Vice, and I can even pinpoint specific shots that are identical in both versions. Matter of fact, in practically every scene of the Vice movie you can reference what episode the scene is more or less based on. Same exact themes, plots, and even set design!

The thing is, people don't remember the dark parts of the Miami Vice TV show, they only recall what was being made fun of in The Wedding Singer. Miami Vice was dark, violent, and seedy. I give Mann props for refusing to re-do the theme, and toning down the characters and visuals in the movie. Whereas the TV show glamorized and softened some of the serious issues that were going on, the movie is almost like the "Reality Show" version of what the TV show was eventually based on. The movie is Real. The TV show is the Hollywood version.

Those who pan this movie for not being like the TV show are just wrong. Think about it, if you're a undercover cop, and you
[Show spoiler]just blew a hole through a drug lord's stomach with a shotgun,
do you really feel like hearing "What's Love Got To Do With It?" by Tina Turner like the TV show? No. You want to say, "I hate this job" like the movie.
