lol, what?! This is pretty funny. Sidebar, I watched Emilia Perez this week and it’s honestly a bad movie that is only receiving recognition due to its inclusive subject matter. If it were not for this reason I do think it would have already been forgotten.

In an alternative universe, I Saw the TV Glow would have gotten the gold.

This film is just bad and has only been lauded because it ticks numerous boxes. I absolutely hated it even while watching (and the "music" is beyond painful). As a gay man who detests all the "queer" nonsense that gets grouped together, I find the patronising pandering surrounding this film an insult. I also think the Best Actress nomination is a complete joke.
I actually hope it WINS every single award and really shows up Hollywood hypocrisy for what it is. This is an objectively bad film that asks the audience to find a sociopathic murderous monster sympathetic without giving any actual reason beyond "because trans". Every single thing Emilia Perez does is motivated by selfishness (even the "finding" of bodies he's responsible for killing!) and it gets everyone killed or ruins their lives and she's then deified for it and no-one knows the truth except Rita! I don't think this film understands just how tone deaf it actually is! It's the Emperor's New Clothes in movie form.

Man I've seen this scene a few times now. It's so breathtaking how bad it is, it's like watching a car crash into a nursery and burst into flames bad. You just can't look away, you have to shake your head in disbelief and wonder how a producer, director, and studio executives watched this scene and went "Yeah, that's going to be a hit"

I didn't like I Saw the TV Glow all that much either, but it is MUCH better than this.

The academy has been an acknowledged joke for several years now and ratings show that. But I think your right that this may be the most mind-numbing example of that, taken to the extreme.

Completely on brand for Hollywood in the 2020s to have this nominated for a record amount of awards.
