Got a ticket for Jaws 3D; had to walk up to the box office and ask if the theater was participating in the $3 day (they are), they're not a part of a big chain and didn't advertise it anywhere.

Does anyone know if Showcase Cinemas is participating in the $3 popcorn/concession part of this deal? I can clearly see they are definitely doing the $3 movies.

I assume Allen Theatres is only doing $3 tickets. The places doing $3 concessions will probably lose some money.

AMC has $5 cameo combos: small popcorn and soda.

Cinemark has $3 small popcorn, $3 candies, $3 medium soda/icees.

Wrote out today's schedule for my 5 movies. Think I'll eat lunch during bullet train and dinner during Bodies, Bodies, Bodies. Going to take some water and a couple sodas along to drink before the 11:30 show and the 5:00 show.

I could be wrong but i think only big chains have those extra super cheap deals. we are not offering it just the $3.00 tickets.

For their sake, I hope not. Even a $3 hot dog should have some healthy margins. I presume the same is accurate of nachos, popcorn, candy, soda, pretzels, and most of the other items you'd generally find at a theater.

Now I'm hungry and it's your fault.

I heard from a someone who used to work at theatre say that the popcorn container costs more than the popcorn itself.

This is only natural due to their use of the finest paper, cardboard, and ink.

Soda, popcorn. Candy etc all have crazy mark ups it’s pretty hard to lose money when your still charging a triple or 6 fold mark up of cost.

Looking at the concession line at AMC Orange 30 - I'd be very surprised if theaters didn't do well today. Sure they probably lose money on the tickets per the revenue sharing agreements with studios, but I haven't seen a concession line like that since the 1990's at AMC Orange 30 back when it was one of the top grossing theaters in the US.

I was planning on seeing Bullet Train today but all three of the showings at my local AMC are almost completely sold out, with maybe around 10 seats left, all at the front. Regal has a waiting screen to buy tickets, too.

Next time I do something like this I'm sneaking food in, these lines are ridiculous.

Hopefully this is successful and theaters and studios realize prices are way above optimal levels for profit maximization.
