I'm buying them all because I'm a huge Trek nerd, but I do wish they provided more commentaries and such to make the BD sets more enticing for people with Paramount+. The few commentaries that are there are very nice to have.

I don't have Paramount + but I buy all the Blu Ray releases of the modern shows and quite enjoy each series. Actually, my copy of Star Trek: Lower Decks Season 3 just arrived in the mail a few minutes ago.

I can’t ever trust bluray.com reviews if they give this piece of junk a “highest recommendation” - this and Discovery are unwatchable

I could never equate these two shows. I think Strange New Worlds is quite enjoyable while I find Discovery insufferable.

I (along with my wife) did my damnedest to like Discovery because I certainly didn't want to be lumped in with the racist chuds online complaining about Michael being a black women (I kinda like the character, tbh, she has a lot going on, even being a lost sibling of Spock is amusing in its way) but it was always a struggle.

SNW we immediately loved. We could not wait for each new episode to drop, as opposed to Discovery where each week it felt like we had to do our duty as trekkies to watch it.

It's hard to believe they came from the same production teams, it's like they learned from every mistake they made on Disco and that made SNW that much better.

That's exactly how my wife and I felt.

I need to see the Blu Ray art. If it's the same as the DVD art.....

[Show spoiler]

...I may go with that over the steelbook. I got the season 1 steelbook but this isn't doing it for me like the Discovery Season 4 didn't in the same way.

It was just "TOS" in Strange New Worlds... there was not a corresponding episode for Lower Decks.

-----------------

Yesterday (Star Trek Day), there was a program that showed two animated characters from Lower Decks coming through the time portal (from the original series The City On The Edge Of Forever) and becoming real people once they came through. I heard something about a crossover event from Lower Decks to Strange New Worlds by Jerry O'Connell (a voice on Lower Decks and married to Una on Strange New Worlds).

I wasn't aware of anything he said during that discussion, never watched Lower Decks, and thought I missed something kind of cool between the two shows.

Perhaps someone will know what that's all about then...

Thanks anyways.

That crossover was released as a Strange New Worlds episode, season 2, episode 7, titled Those Old Scientists. The bits of the episode that were set in the Lower Decks timeline were done in the Lower Decks animation style. So although it's got characters and animation style from Lower Decks, it's counted as a Strange New Worlds episode. That's what the crossover is - a Strange New Worlds episode that features Lower Decks characters and some bits of Lower Decks style animation. There isn't any Lower Decks episode that features corresponding Strange New Worlds characters. I hope this makes sense.

One of the two new Lower Decks episodes makes an offhand reference to the incident, but that's probably all we'll ever see of it in the LD series.

The stardate that Mariner gives at the beginning part (set in the future) is right after the LD episode Hear All, Trust Nothing (which itself is a Deep Space Nine crossover episode). So, for Lower Decks, it's in the middle of season 3.

But it is very clearly meant as a SNW episode.

I'm still leaning towards getting the standard Blu Ray because i like the artwork more(although i do fear stacked disks).

With that said, the swag that the steelbook is getting is nice. The poster is cool but it does kind of suck for the people getting the Blu Ray steelbook that they lose out on the character magnets that the 4K steelbook is getting. It's actually a neat idea that you see some times wit store exclusive slipcovers where there is a hole to slip in and out different art of the front of the slip box. This is sort of the same idea but for a steelbook.

Again, it sucks that the bBu Ray steelbook doesn't get this but the 4K steelbook does. Maybe it's because the Blu Ray set has an extra disk that takes up more room and the the magnets won't fit into the package?
