Did someone mention the WAC titles we're not likely to see a UK release of for one reason or another? Was Ladyhawke one of them?

Yep, it's Fox/Disney over here.

There is an extent UK Fox disc, although it's OOP. You can still get it through the usual channels for a moderately decent price.

I bought the German Blu-ray of Ladyhawke a while ago. It was cheap to purchase and the disc has nice picture quality. I previously found the synth score to be jarring and distracting but I actually now like it after viewing the film again.

WAC substantially improved upon the Fox transfer and released their own WAC blu in 2015 according to the review here but did they mean the older one Fox used for their much earlier DVD or the later 2011 German and 2014 UK Fox blus? A capsaholic comparison suggests the UK and US blus are identical. I guess they meant the old Fox DVD. I held off buying the now OOP UK blu because I misinterpreted this sloppy review. It turns out the improved result is not new and "unique to this WAC release" but appeared on earlier Fox blus.

"The transfer used by the Warner Archive Collection ("WAC") for its 1080p, AVC-encoded Blu-ray was originally prepared by Fox, which owns the film's international distribution rights. Upon review of Fox's master, WAC decided that additional work was needed and called upon the services of Warner's on-site facility, MPI. MPI proceeded to do substantial additional color correction and grading, as well as major cleanup. The result is a new presentation of Ladyhawke that is unique to this WAC release. It is a revelation."

That last part of the quote is laughable. There's a gnat's wing between the two presentations.

Reviews like this make me untrusting of them as quite often I’ve ignored a disc after mentally marking it as ‘unwatchable’ and found it to be absolutely fine and far preferable to a DVD. I realised I had been doing just that for the film Maverick so rectified it immediately (and got it for just over a fiver, luckily).

I managed to get the now-OOP UK disc of Ladyhawke when HMV had various Fox titles for a few quid each in one of their clearance sale (sadly a few I ordered got cancelled though, such as Broken Arrow).

That's a nice tactic to provoke sales ;/, didn't think any of them were limited editions...

Already?! Surely an error. Unless they decided to print say 100 copies or something, which would be ridiculous and they should've given fair warning if they were aiming that low. The usual standard is 2000-3000 copies of something.

Anyway, I've pre-ordered The Naked Spur just in case (i.e. the one I want the most), but hoping this doesn't start happening for the others. I wanted to get all five at some point and obviously there are more to be announced (I will likely pre-order Straight Time once it's available, will just have to subscribe to the newsletter with a different email).

Tempted to do same, because it is my most wanted too, but don't like being played like a puppet on a string, lol. Pretty sure they are not limited though, because own films themselves, and can make as many as like of them.

Luckily I preordered both The Naked Spur and Pump Up The Volume the other day, despite my attempts at cutting back this year, most of my remaining wishlist titles outside of Woo and Verhoeven are Warners and Paramount catalogue titles. I'll have to be having Straight Time day one, can't risk missing out of that one either. Just means the 4k stuff I'd usually have picked up on release like Cool Hand Luke and Rio Bravo which are likely coming in April will have to wait for a sale.

Beats me, I am going to ask staff tomorrow if just re-stock or permanantly gone. Expect the former because the titles available for a long time in the states.

I mean if they have run out of stock, that simply means they won’t be getting any of my money, and that’s just bad business tactics.

And yeah, nice to see the branding on there again. I actually kinda like it and would be nice to get as close to the US releases as possible (as with Criterion).

I just looked at the Ready Player One steelbook on the WB website, and that says "sold out" but also has "notify me when available" and "add to wishlist" buttons, which seems to indicate they are expecting to get more. If so, "sold out" on that website just means not available to order, not gone never to return, so I assume they will order more stock of the "sold out" Warner Archive items (since there is absolutely no reason they should be limited).

Edit - Those buttons are also available on the "sold out" WAC titles now. The "notify me when available" button is not available on all sold out items on the website, eg. there's a sold out House of the Dragon Funko Pop that doesn't offer a notification option. So maybe the presence of such a button on the WAC titles is promising.
