So you've seen some bad slips?

One Best Buy I went to had about a DOZEN copies on the shelf and every single one was messed up. Couldn't believe it. Creases, dinged corners, tears. I even went to a Barnes and Noble and they had a solitary copy with their big round blue sticker on the front....and a tear at the bottom.

Correct. 0 fer at 3 different Best Buys.

Never happened before. Best one was possibly rated as good.

Making another run tomorrow in a different direction.

No dice for me yesterday at BB or Target but plenty of them at Walmart. I was one of the few that said earlier I'd pass on this one since there's no Rocky but the positive reviews sucked me in, looking forward to watching!

I think I have stumbled upon the reason. Warner has been boosting the center channel volume relative to the other channels on the standalone DD5.1 tracks on 4K UHDs so people with poor quality speakers can hear the dialogue better:

The DD5.1 tracks are, therefore, an alternative option for people where the reference-level Atmos mix dialogue doesn't sound intelligible because of their poor speakers.

But I thought that's what the 2.0 was for???

The WB releases with the 5.1 mix don't have a 2.0

But functionally, is the same concept; have a lesser mix tweaked for lesser speakers

Such a shame they got rid of the 5.1 on Superman for no apparent reason then

Well, given this analysis was done on the 2018 Matrix 4K, its likely the DD5.1 of the 2018 4K Superman has the same center channel boost, and that was the real reason it was included (poor speaker mix). The new release has the aforementioned 2.0.

I streamed this as I'm probably not going to buy the Creeds until you can buy all Rocky's on UHD (I haven't seen those by the way). I really liked Creed & Creed II but this was a big meh for me. Maybe because Rocky isn't in it, I don't know. It seemed like a manufactured conflict, coming out of nowhere, that didn't really matter. The movie could also be standalone. Like these could just be some boxers and other than some lines about Adonis being one of the best of all time, there was nothing that really tied it back to Rocky or the other Creeds. So I didn't like this one as much. But I'll still get it eventually in a box set of all Creeds or something.

If anyone is still having slip issues, your best bet for a (near) mint one is Walmart. Able to find one “great” one among 5 Best Buys.

Walmart also has beautiful new slips for a handful of lionsgate westerns.

I only saw the Walmart exclusive which I did not care for. I guess at this point I should just wait for new ones to show and if all fails, pick up a crap one when they start to appear slipless if it comes to that. I don't understand this. I figured it was a one store thing, but three of one chain and another from a completely different one, all the same damage.

I prefer the regular slip but correctly assumed the Walmart would have to be sturdier due to the fold out. Only 1 Walmart of 4 even had them out and both copies were far better than anything BB had.

Not making another slip run til June 6th so will decide which BB/WM to return then.

Easily the strangest, dumbest slip hunt for me.

I kinda wish the majors would stop using foil backed slips and do plain ones like most of the indies. The foil ones can't take a ding or a scratch without causing the start of the paint flaking off. It just spreads. Paramount is the worst with this, you pretty much need sleeves for the slips. And they get a crease and it looks like a mountain ridge.

This one appears to be a foil backed matte one like BvS, Mad Max 2/3, where they get scratched easily.

Agree. Not a fan of foil.

Going to sit down in a week or so and get plastic cases for all of them.
