I hear him presenting "feathery" as positive and "sharp" as negative. Regardless of what ends up being a reality with later statements, I hear the current comment as The Cat™ presented: he prefers IPs.

Walter Hill was on set that day and took over directing one scene because a swamp tarantula fell on Cronenberg and he fainted from arachnotrauma. When Cronenberg returned to set Walter Hill called Cronenberg a "dingus" which didn't upset him but Cronenberg is territorial and reached into his pocket and threw a rat at Walter Hill. Walter Hill fainted from rattrauma. The CEO of Fox's daughter's sister's girl was there and she saw, and proceeded to faint from rattrauma too. There was this huge commotion when Walter Hill woke up and he called the CEO of Fox who then didn't remove Cronenberg from production, but stripped him from all credits without his knowledge. He got paid though. Cronenberg went on to basically not care because he hated the film. Walter Hill also shadow-edited in a new ending. The original ending is considered lost to time.

Whats even more bizarre is how this story leaked over the years. Jeff Goldblum was out swinging in the trees hunting crocodiles and watched everything unfold. He reportedly said "urrrr ahhar ha yeee a" and caught a swamp bird back to NY. There he has dinner with some theater people from back in the day and what he didn't know is Martin Scorcese was hiding in the rafters watching for inspiration for a new film and overheard the whole thing. He isn't a gossiper but he quickly called Robert De Niro and then Robert De Niro told his mole in the mob and then the story spread back to Hollywood but it sounded so silly the CEO of Fox was never concerned. Then Jeff talked about it on an episode of Oprah, I believe it was 1992-ish? It's quite a hoot.

I could just as easily picture the man doing a similar video talking about an available OCN and sharpness in a positive light, depending on the project. It's like talking about food in terms of umami.
My estimation is that he just digs whatever he has in his hands and is getting to work with, with varying degrees of reverence and excitement. The video is likely not just an expression of passion for the project, but also marketing and a conversation piece that helps explain some of the qualities and impart some of the reasoning / context. The way he explains it, lends a sense of allure and pedigree to the existence of the IP they're using. You can either put out some cool promotional material and represent what you're doing, like you believe in it, or you can just let the narrative preemptively write itself. Either way, I really enjoyed the video. It was probably also well-timed for subscriber week, since it helps communicate what Vinegar Syndrome does as an archival preservation outfit. Should supporting that sort of endeavor be something that sweetens the pot for you. |

This portion remains largely unsubstantiated speculation, since he also allegedly had high blood pressure, ibs, low blood sugar, and an irrational fear of airborne opossums which can also sometimes resemble a rat when flung with sufficient vigor.

No, Tropic Thunder was a satire of the Vietnam war movie genre. This one was essentially a ripoff of Deliverance, but IMO is actually a better movie and set in the swamps of Louisiana instead of Georgia.

Sir, you're exceeded your hot take ratio in this sentence, please slow down. They are very different once you get beyond "city folk with internal conflicts attempt to flee the swamps after the locals get violent", Deliverance leans towards slow burn horror, while Southern Comfort is a straightforward action movie.

I wouldn’t have the arrogance to call anyone ‘crazy’ for preferring Southern Comfort over Deliverance but I’d pull up anyone with the temerity to call it ‘better’.

I was a bit underwhelmed when I saw Deliverance, but that was years ago and I've been meaning to give it a re-watch.
Re: Boorman, I really wanted to like Zardoz cause it's balmy but I found it so ugly to look at. Exorcist II and Excalibur are gorgeous, though. |

You have to go into it with properly managed expectations, with the understanding that it is first and foremost a woodsy rite-of-passage softcore porno. In some southern circles, it is rumored to be viewed as the everyman's Barbarella, with some whitewater rafting footage thrown in.
