Definitely not as good as the original TV show.

Jonathan Harris as Dr. Smith made watching the reruns so worthwhile. Oldman plays him as a straight villain.

Funny thing is, Dr. Smith was originally a straight-forward villain in the early part of season 1, but quickly started to transform into his more famous greedy/bumbling character.

I agree that Oldman is nowhere close to Jonathan Harris. But then nobody in the film is as good as the actors in the series. The show was super campy but the cast was great.

in the first 5 episodes or so Dr. Smith was a straight villain too and the robot was sinister then they decided to kiddify them

Maybe I'll buy this.
The ship effects were great for the time period but the CGI wasn't even good when it came out. Blarp was and is an abomination, and the spiders and Dr. Smith thing didn't even look good on DVD back then let alone blu-ray now.

Yeah, the robot was initially programmed by Dr. Smith to destroy the Jupiter 2 and when that failed, to kill the Jupiter 2 crew on the planet. The robot was downright scary for the first few episodes. But things quickly changed. The earlier episodes were actually decent action/adventure shows for the time period. And there were a handful of interesting ideas throughout the series. But it really did become very silly and campy. Far too many space pirates and circuses and whatnot. I watched the full series on blu-ray several years ago and oof, some of those episodes are hard to get through. I still love the show as a whole though. Dr. Smith, Robot B-9 and Will Robinson are legendary, and the family interacted well together. Also, Robby the Robot made two different appearances.

Probably the same reason we never got any seasons of The Orville on blu-ray or UHD, whatever that reason is I don't know.

Fox stopped releasing tv show on blu-ray probably from low sales. Shame because I’d love to have The Orville on blu-Ray.

I'm curious why they stop releasing them on digital at the very least? This has happened to several shows I like where only one or two seasons will be released on digital and then they just stop.

Eh. I didn’t need the new restoration or new interviews, Ghost Ship was disappointing in the new extras. So I saved a bit of money buying the original New Line disc from Hamilton Book.

I love this movie and the fx etc. They blew me away at the time and i think a lot of them are still very impressive. This is however, one of those 90's movies where you can really see a degradation on the film on certain VFX shots, particularly the Blarp stuff. I guess that's because he was a very late addition when they decided the puppet wasn't convincing enough and the VFX work was very rushed. You do notice a drop in visual quality whenever Blarp shows up though.

Day one purchase for me. I quote this movie so much, if anyone actually knew what I was referencing, they'd probably hate me.

Excited to see some other folks weigh in on this release. I can’t really see much of a difference from the old disc.

Meh, Ghost in the Darkness is a great film. This film on the other hand, I have never liked ever, even when I was a kid. The Ghost in the Darkness is a very underrated film and Michael Douglas playing a Hunter is quite a treat to watch. Val Kilmer is fantastic in this movie too. I’ll stick with The Ghost in the Darkness I hope it gets a 4K UHD in the future fingers crossed. Some people may love this film but I have never liked this film at all especially the bad CGI.
Ghost in the Darkness>Lost in Space 1998
That being said, I really need to rewatch it at some point in the future, so I might pick it up when it goes way down in price.

Just got my copy from Shout! And the new interviews is actually a pretty good 30 minute retrospective that I really enjoyed. Made the upgrade worth it for me.

Such an old BD that would truly be a massive fail on Shout's part to not even beat it. It's happened before though, like with Cyborg. Guess I'll wait for caps.

If the old BD was an OCN scan I can believe it, it also was a 2010 disc so it won't look nearly as dated as some first/second year titles can look. Shout is still releasing telecine DVD master garbage for $30 in 2024 so we are still getting "older" materials

The original blu-ray of Lost in Space still looks decent. I've seen much, much worse. It's actually pretty good.
