"Restoration" has become a meaningless term which is mainly used for marketing. Some labels have cleaned up a few white specks on older scans/telecines and marketed them as restorations.

A digitally-finished film from 2009 should not require a true restoration.

Might be against the grain, but I mostly enjoyed these revamps during that era. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre one was really enjoyable at the time, though I haven't seen it since the theater.

I have heard this so many times. I saw it in the theater, DVD and Blu-ray and not once do I recall anything from any of the sequels besides the masks. They didn't squeeze any of the first three movies into this. The plot and story are totally different. None of the same characters. None of the same kills.

Where does this idea that this remake stuffs the first three original Friday the 13th movies into one come from...? It's just a reboot/reimagining.

I think it was like:
I. Pamela
II. Sack mask
III. Hockey mask
IV. Brother looking for his lost sister

The filmmakers have commented many times about how they instilled the first three Fridays into the film...thought it was common knowledge.

The opening scene where his mother gets beheaded is a remake of the first film.

The next scene where the group of teenagers go to find weed in the woods and Jason kills all but the girl is a remake of the second film.

The rest of the movie is a remake of the 3rd film.

Or simply think of it as; His Mother, Sack mask, Hockey mask.

This will be a day one buy for me, but not even necessarily because I enjoyed the film. I just love what Arrow does -- and the biggest strength of the film, for me, is how great Derek Mears was as Jason. I know a lot of fans at the time of the film's release enjoyed the physical presence he brought to the character, but I still feel it's not appreciated enough. I think a lot of it has to do with what has happened legally with the franchise, basically removing him of any ability to reprise his role in a sequel of any sort to this point.

It's really unfortunate, because he carries this film. What's so frustrating about it, is they did such a good job with kind of fleshing out Jason's methods of killing. Allowing him to almost be a bit 'Rambo'-like in how he can set traps and strategize his way around the geography of Crystal Lake. But then they tarnish the rest of the script by writing and casting some of the most unlikable and un-relatable group of teenagers to be featured in the film. The characters you're even supposed to root for are as wooden as a piece of plank. I have no idea how anyone thought that the Supernatural actor would make a good lead outside of soap opera television.

But overall, the kills are great. And as mentioned, Mears killed it in the role of Jason. It's still worth watching for that alone.

in vastly oversimplified terms this may be true but it seems more accurate to say there are homages to the first 3 films in this reboot

the story blends these elements together as a sort of re-introduction to the character before telling its own story

Pre-ordered directly at Arrow US! Price was just too good to pass on. Hope I won't get screwed by customs, though.
Never saw this movie, but from what I read on this thread, it's a pretty good remake.

i agree in that the F13 series is the only one of the big slasher franchises where i suggest people skip the first movie and instead go right to one of the sequels.

Might be my fave in the series. But don't love it to drop $50 on the 4k. Should be part of a sale down the line.

Where is the Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2003 in 4K that is the best remake of this era and it would look so good in 4K

I'm not paying $41 for any of these after dropping $130 on the Shout set.

If this was an Arrow release that came with a slip box and booklet, then I would have easily pre-ordered already. However, I already own the steelbook set and Shout Factory set, so I can definitely hold off on this and wait for a sale. Arrow spoiled us with the chunky box sets, and now I'm disappointed whenever it's just a slipcover and poster. I would have loved the extra swag with this and Silence of the Lambs.
