Happy they got Larry Smith on to approve the master. I've seen a lot of debate over the colors. I saw a 35mm print at MOMI recently and it was very red-orange in the skin tones. The screenshots look much more neutral, but glad they actually got the DP to sign off on it. Talking about the screenshots, I know this movie is grainy, but talk about grainy AF! The clip they uploaded looks terrible with that compression. Criterion is gonna have their work cut out for them on the encode.

Those screenshots are gorgeous! That’s the level of grain I want to see ALWAYS. There had better be ZERO grain management on this release.

I assume Warner did not release the "International" cut in the US. Haven't watched my copy in a good while. This is one of those odd films that you can't take your eyes off of and can never get enough of, no matter how many times you watch it. I feel the same way about Cloud Atlas.

The clip is very promising, though the optimized-for-web codec is obviously falling short of the challenge of resolving that heavy grain. Should be magnificent on disc.

Abigail Good (the Mysterious Woman): When all the other girls left, I was in this amazing position of being able to work with two incredible artists. I was on the set with Tom and Stanley, finding things on our own. Stanley asked my opinion a lot. Me and Tom were among the last people he ever filmed; Stanley died before the dubbing was done. And I always wondered before the film came out whether they were going to dub me, because I didn’t have an American accent.

Leon Vitali (assistant to Kubrick): It was Cate Blanchett! That was her voice. We wanted something warm and sensual but that at the same time could be a part of a ritual. Stanley had talked about finding this voice and this quality that we needed. After he’d died, I was looking for someone. It was actually Tom and Nicole who came up with the idea of Cate. She was in England at the time, so she came into Pinewood and recorded the lines.

I really, REALLY hope they include the "Show West" teaser featuring an extended version of the "mirror scene". One of the extremely rare instances of Kubrick deleted footage making it out into the wild.

It's an important artifact also because Kubrick cut it himself before Warner Bros. took over the marketing -- or at least exercised veto power over what Kubrick's estate came up with, like the poster situation discussed above.

I was shocked when I saw the finished film and there was a big- and rather sloppy- jump cut in the middle of the "mirror scene", and it also fades to black rather abruptly on Kidman's face whereas the teaser really lingers on her expressiom. I'm surprised Kubrick made those edits to it, especially that unmatched jump cut in the middle of it.

It's not optimized for web, it's the old AVC h264 at 20 mbps for the 4K clip

Stanley Kubrick has now announced that he's decided to remove all scenes featuring Jennifer Jason Leigh in Eyes Wide Shut. Previously, he'd called her back to re-shoot every scene she appeared in. Now he will be re-shooting her role with Marie Richardson instead. He said that he wasn't using Leigh because of a "scheduling conflict" but described her scenes as a "cameo." This contradicts some reports, which said that Leigh's role in the movie was pivotal. Meanwhile, the shooting time for the movie gets ever nearer the 17 months record held by Lawrence of Arabia.
