And Best Buy too. Still the highest price around, though. $24.99, but that's better than nothing.

Clayton, Kenneth Brown thinks that New Line applied DNR, so maybe you're right?

Anyway, anyone impressed with the audio track? It's so damn aggressive at times, and creepy in others. And OMG, the "uno, dos, tres, toca la pared" part, and the quietness that follows.

Just finished watching it a little while ago. Great movie, great PQ/SQ.

Anyway, I had pretty high expectations for it and it still ended up being better than I expected.

this movie did not dissapoint... greatttttt movie... the sound was amazing and the pq was really good.. i did not really notice the red in the blacks... my tv is calibrated though? i'll watch it again and see if i notice anything...

I speak Spanish so i didn't need the subtitles... but, how can you change the original language on movies? thats just wrong... i prefer the subtitles

Watched the movie last night (in fact I stayed up late and watch it the living room when the family was asleep), and it did NOT disappoint. I have a bunch of family members coming to my house to see it, but I really wanted to be able to enjoy the film (too many distractions with the house full ).
Anyways, the movie is excellent and I truly got into the story.

Looking more and more like a blind buy consideration. Thanks all for your opinions on this one.

So I am going to guess that once again, it's my TV adding the funky red to the blacks... Fanfriggentastic. Yet another problem with my 60A-3000!

Watched this last night. What a great movie! The wife says she liked Pan's Labrynth more, but I think she's insane.

This movie has been the first to actually give me the creeps in a long time. Great story.

I had some interesting dreams last night because of this movie.

A note on the PQ:
I've seen this from other posts that there is indeed parts where the "Black" is more of a RED.. Not sure if this was intentional or not because there are other scenes where the Blacks are actually Black. My Television is also calibrated so I know that the levels are set correctly and this is the first movie I've owned on Blu-ray to have this effect. Regarding the white sparkles I saw none except the reflection off a characters ring during a nightvision-esque scene - which is expected. The RED darkening didn't detract from the movie so much that I was annoyed, but it was interesting to note that if you pay attention you can see the color change between different scenes.. It's almost as if the dark harrowing scenes were intended to have this effect?

Not sure.

I'm peed off! No release in Canada on this one. Apparently we're Communist or something. Damn. HMV says they'll import it but they'll charge up the butt for it.

Oh thank you!!! I was going nuts trying to figure out what was going on! I figured it's just New Line and their DNR causing a weird effect on my TV since I only have a handful of titles from them and that would explain why I haven't seen it on other titles. But as long as someone else is seeing what I am seeing I feel much better.

Glad I am not the only one. And it's like a weird red. It's not like the scene is actually tinted red or anything, it's just that the parts that are supposed to be black are actually red. It's somewhat distracting because if you look at the image close up, you can actually see what appears to be the normal colors around it, and then just bam, red where it's supposed to be black. Like instead of fading to black, it fades to red... Yeah, I don't know why I keep trying to describe it...

Can anyone who saw this film in theaters confirm if this odd color behavior was noticed in theaters?

I'm wondering if in transferring the film it was done on accident or if it was placed there on purpose, because it really only seems to occur in darker scenes where some spooky action is afoot. Course I only watched it once, so I could be talkin' out my, well.. you know.

Just watched last night. Del Toro is one of the very few directors that knows how to actually make spookie movies with pacing, light, shadow, reaction shots, slowly building suspence and not showing too much too quickly. The character developement is impressive also.

PQ is beautiful and there is an exellent musical score playing to the mounting horror. I'm very much looking forward to more films by him. In fact, so much so, that I just ordered The Devil's Backbone from Amazon. Sleep Tight!

El Orfanato DVD vs. El Orfanato Blu-ray

http://www.zonadvd.com/modules.php?n...icle&artid=824

Questions

1) Is this title heavily filtered and DNR-ed like Pan's Labyrinth ?

2) Are the extras presented in 480i/p or 1080i/p ?

3) Is this movie on BD50 or BD25 ?
I just finished watching it and loved it. I'm going to watch it again tomorrow. I picked it up today at my local, understocked Blockbuster. They have, like, maybe 3 titles.

I only glanced at the first chapter of the extras and it was 480i.

I cannot read the information on the underside of disc, so I cannot determine if it is BD50 or BD25.

Anyway, it was a great movie and I highly recommend it.

Me too. You can actually pick up some additional information that way, like character's names that are never mentioned, indisdinct telephone conversations, etc...

Del Toro didn't direct it. Juan Antonio Bayona directed it. Del Toro produced it.
