Superman more or less cant die, so its difficult for writers/directors to show superman in any real peril unless Kryptonite is involved. Therefore its hard for audiences to feel any sense of worry for him.
Thats what made superman 2 so great, you actually felt he can be hurt, the three villains are just as tough as him. As others have said the next film needs a villian that can can match him, so we actually worry about him. Instead of yep, hes just saved another person from a large object falling on them!!

Ok, 'Superman Returns' was not THAT bad!!!

By the way, if they decided to use Mr. Mxyzptlk, they'd have to cast Howie Mandel in the role. And, I hate to say it, but his new hairdo kind of has a MAJOR conflict of interest when it comes to the major villain of the Kal-El mythos.

I have a hard time believing that's the real Myspace page for the movie when most of the pictures hosted in the HTML are on a Photobucket account and they've been deleted....

Overall, given what they had to work with, I think Bryan Singer and Co. did an outstanding job resurrecting the Superman franchise from the dead. The last thing we needed was another re-telling of the Superman origin story. Moving back to the point the film series began derailing (Sorry Richard Pryor, we miss you), was the smartest thing they could have done given the circumstances and amount of time that has passed.

Casting wise, finding Brandon Routh to wear the cape was a bit of a miracle. Seeing him onscreen instead of Christopher didn't take me out of the movie at all. I wish I could say the same about Kate Bosworth, but she's a very capable actress. She just needs to show some more grit. After seeing Spacey step in as Luthor, the only other person I would have bought in the role was was Hackman himself.

I am really looking forward to the next couple of films under Singer's direction. If I remember correctly, he signed a three picture deal, and I hope he sticks it out. His writing team of Mike Dougherty and Dan Harris did a fine job of picking up the pieces and getting the overall storyline back on track. They're the ones who stepped in and delivered a punch to the gut with X-2, and they've written for the Ultimate X-Men books for Marvel. Now that everything's back on course, I hope they can really deliver the goods for the next Superman film. He's due.

I'm 99% sure that Harris and Dougherty are not involved with MOS.

Having just watched SR the other day here are a couple hopes I have for Superman himself (other than the ones I already mentioned )

1) Change his hair. The super-gelled look with the spitcurl doesn't look good on him. In the scenes where his hair is wet and it's hanging down a bit, I thought he looked the best. Superman's flying around breaking the sound barrier, his hair shouldn't be perfect, and Routh looks better with a looser do. Reeve's wasn't plastered down.

2) Change the neckline on the suit. I finally figured out why Routh's head looks so small, and I think it's because the neckline is like a choker collar. They need a wider neckline like the older films and the comics. It'll make his head look less like it was tacked on.

Minor complaints, but that's what you get from Superman nerds.

The only request I have is for them to go back to Superman's true colors. This burgundy S-shield and muted blue stuff has to go. It looks hideous. Why mess with one of the most famous symbols and graphic designs in the world? It's stupid things like that probably cost Warner $50 million in worldwide gross for the film.

I like the blue in the new suit, but I do think they should brighten the red a bit. I think the red in Christopher Reeve's costume would look kind of cheap, but the burgundy is too dark. The new look of the symbol grew on me a lot, but it needs to be bigger.

I thought the new suit was fine.... except they need to make the symbol bigger on his chest, and bring back the yellow symbol that is supposed to be on the back of his cape.

I think they overdid it with the two he's got already. Nix the one on the belt. Personally I like the older designs and animated version with no symbol on the back, like the one in SR. I think they brought that back recently in the comics as well.

The symbol on his cape has been there ever since superman was created. The one on his belt needs to be tossed away.

There have a been a few illustrators over the years who have left the symbol off the cape. Alex Ross being one of the most recent, and my personal favorite artist.

Arrow Superman Sequel Super Thread

Source

Very interesting article for Superman fans. Depending on the success of the Incredible Hulk, WB might get new actors and directors for the next Superman installment.

Quote:
Is Hulk's success a factor in the next Superman movie? Warner Bros may be waiting to see if The Incredible Hulk reboot works before they decide what to do with the next Superman movie.

NEXT week's release of The Incredible Hulk could well be a green signal for a total restart to the Superman movie franchise.

There have been claims that the upcoming Hulk movie - a 'reboot' that's entirely unrelated to Ang Lee's 2003 version - will test the public demand for remaking recent films that didn't perform as expected.

Some have said that Warner Bros executives will be watching the performance of the new Hulk movie very closely, before deciding what kind of Superman movie they want next: a direct sequel to Bryan Singer's 2006 Superman Returns or a restart that's entirely unconnected (with a new cast and a new director).

A more action filled Superman film with maybe a villian other then Luthor would be nice. Give him someone to actually fight, not just show off his super powers. I would not mind keeping the same cast except maybe Kate Bosworth. They need a better/stronger Lois Lane. And maybe, just maybe, lose the kid.
