Pretty sad.

I mean, I know the animal killings weren't fake and a lot of the news real accidents and such were real0, but this was nothing more than another "shock" movie - period. It has no morals and look at the narrator - fake beard and his name - Dr. Francis B. Gross (be gross anyone?) Yet, he talks about wanting to explore the meaning of death and goes so far as to say, during the animal slaughter scene replete with a family eating fried chicken like a pack of ravenous dogs, that this was enough to put him off eating meat. Hmm. Pre-PETA possibly?

Poorly done movies that were meant to shock you and that's it - and even then, they weren't that shocking. Actually, they bored me to tears.
Schwartz cameos in all of the Faces of Death movies.

And some of the animal killings are faked, as well. The infamous monkey scene in the first film, for instance, was faked. In point of fact, almost everything in the films was faked, with only very few snippets (mostly slaughterhouse footage and the like) being actual stock footage.

I 've watched back in the 80's FOD 1-2 and 4 (could not find the third one in my area and found them boring for most parts i can't understand how you ppl get shocked by this i mean it's only some blood (mostly fake) i remember laughing at the monkey scene thinking ''who's weird enough to order monkey brain on a restaurant menu'' I think you guys should not take it too seriously there are more gore stuff released years after with real footage (the banned from television series stuff)

Maybe FOD was released ahead of its time as today's movies like SAW ,HOSTEL ,FINAL DESTINATIONS show death scenes more bloody than these faces of death movies

I got this Blu-ray when it was on sale for ten bucks at Amazon last year. I wouldn't have paid more than that for it. The movie itself isn't really my cup of tea, but most of it's fake so it doesn't really bother me like it did when I rented the VHS as a kid, lol. But the extras on this disc alone make it worthy. The commentary with the director is absolutely fascinating, because he reveals pretty much everything you would ever want to know about the making of this film – which scenes are fake (the majority of them), which scenes are real, how he got the idea to do such a film, etc. The picture quality on the Blu-ray is also pretty great considering the source material. It does look better than DVD, despite the different film and video cameras used to shoot the footage. If the price comes back down to around $10, I'd recommend it.

Saw this used at the local store for $6.99. Didnt even know it was out on blu. Yes, alot of it is faked. You can tell.

Now, if BANNED FROM TV ever came out on blu, Id buy that in a minute.

Yes, I have the dvd set & found the “behind the scenes/director interview” to be patronizing quite honestly.
The bluray makes up for that & the director gets serious (for the most part) during the very informative commentary track.
However, I’m still not sure if the DVD picture quality is better than the bluray or not!
Part 1: interesting film albeit too damn long and kinda loses itself toward the end
Part 2: crap, just dumb, boring and way too much animal cruelty
Part 3: eh kinda more serious I guess, serial killers & too many “re-created” scenes
Part 4: back on track kinda cool and slightly humorous but too little too late (still vastly superior to 2&3)

I remember watching a behind the scenes VHS nearly two decades ago and it showed how the animal deaths were done. The puppy that was cut open alive was a plush toy, and the monkey brains scene was a fake as well. So, basically, not much of the animal cruelty was real, either.

If it's being purchased by some disturbed individual as their porn, that means one less actual, real death society has to be concerned about. If they didn't have this as their means of pleasure, they might end up murdering or torturing someone instead of sitting down in front of their tv.

You should accept the fact that there are disturbed minds, and just because you don't enjoy these videos yourself, doesn't mean they aren't worth while in taking away the urge to do something harmful to a real person for these individuals. Yours isn't as deep as you would think giving your sentiments. I understand to live in a Valhalla like existence within one's mind is something comfortable and pleasing, however, we have to accept that there are people who need this kind of means as an escape so they don't harm those around them. Without it, you or I could be their next possible victim.

You're being very selfish with your attitude. But it's your opinion, and I will accept it, however wrong I think you are.

Are you a fan of Siskel & Ebert? You sound a lot like them. I understand your attitude, however, I cannot speak for the morals as I enjoyed them as a child. I had a tough childhood, and instead of harming someone, I sought horror movies. And some of these. The monkey and the puppy had me sickened for a very long time. But upon discovering those were faked, I got over it. Not too far off from watching those documentaries in school related to WWII.

I'm a pretty well adjusted person. I can't claim everyone who watched this series as a child, or now, is. But, as I mention in comments further above, I don't think this series is as immoral as most bring it out to be.

Cannibal Holocaust is one that had actual animal killings, abuse. It disturbs me more than Faces of Death, however, I have been thinking about getting both.

It isn't immoral to enjoy what has already been done. Doing so in the present, and the future would be. Well, there are exceptions.

I remember one of the Faces of Death sequels ending with very real executions by firing squad of African soldiers. It’s wasn’t very graphic, being shot from a distance, but horrifying, of course. Or this may have been one of the Faces clones.

http://https://snapjudgment.org/epis...-snap-classic/

There was a good episode of the podcast Snap Judgment a few years ago that covered the story behind the movie, and included an interview with the director.

A good chunk of it might be fake. But the ending with the PSA flight 182 footage is very real. And sick and distasteful.

The ripoff series "Death Faces" had more real death footage than "Faces of Death".

Indeed. Of the 135 passengers and crew, only 4 bodies were recovered intact.

Eh, it's just news footage b-roll that they bought from a TV station. Not exactly sensationalist or over the top stuff.

I dunno, body parts strewn all over the place that might be identifiable to friends and family definitely is.

As a kid in the 1980s we used to trade VHS copies of this stuff along with porn. Good times.
