I only want the first. I'll stick to the DVDs for the rest.

ok, now I have the option of getting the box set or individually so here's the question. I have not seen a ton of specs on the box set so other than the book is there any difference in the discs content? the box set is actually about 20 bucks cheaper than buying all individually.

I doubt there's any difference. You simply get them all in one set and with a hardcover book.

I like having each film in it's own case myself.. so this is cool! Esp if they do good cover art. and they include all the same extras on the discs.

Those are horrible. They look nothing like the actors that portray them. Specially Claude Akins as Aldo (Battle). I'm still getting them all but...sheesh. They look like cheap wax figures.

I dig the cover for Conquest, but the others are just okay at best. Will still be picking them up though.

Why the heck isn't Charlton Heston the primary figure on Number 1???

And for that matter he should be featured on number 2 also, along with James Franciscus.

I gotta agree that that is horrific cover art. I am wondering if it was a last minute decision to release them separately. Although, Fox has never really executed the cover art very well for this series.

Cause it's Planet of the Apes. Not planet of the Hestons.

I hope you're joking. The original film was about a human being experiencing a shocking alternative reality.

This box set makes it looks like a monkey/toy merchandising campaign.

Not joking at all. The nature of the original film is deeper than that.

And it's not an alternate reality.

Exactly. The end of the first film where the main character sees a certain monument and yells "Those idiots! They finally did it!" is one of the strongest film endings I've ever seen. This is science-fiction as it's meant to be: using a fictional story, teaching us valuable moral lessons about our current society.

Anyway, I think I'll get the movies seperately instead of the box set. I didn't like the latter movies as much as the first, but it would be nice to have the entire run and I like what I've seen so far of the releases, including the covers.

He is probably thinking about the end of the remake.

Which, after two months of fans trying to figure out, the Tim Burton screenwriter finally came out in interviews as saying "Oh, we just threw that in at the last minute; we were trying to come up with something better than the original..."

(But this was before "Chocolate Factory", back when we were naive enough to take Burton remakes seriously...Was there ever a time? )
