There should never be a reason why anyone should ever defend Monster for selling what they sell at the prices they sell them. I've heard people say "people can choose to pay for them or they can choose not to." That arguement holds no water. First of all, the customer probably doesn't know any better. Second, the customer sees all the marketing BS and hears all the hype and sales pitches from people who push Monster Cables. Third, if you told the customer that they could get the same quality cable elsewhere outrageously cheaper, they'd listen and probably not even consider Monster Cable. It's not unlikely that Monster products don't go bad and their warantee is proabably a good piece of mind. True, until you realize, the $2 HDMI cable that you "decided" not to get also has a Lifetime Warantee too.

just to let everyone know, the guy ended up chucking in the "cheaper" hdmi cable priced at 50 dollars, still a lot for something you could just end up finding cheaper as always else where, with the speaker cable 16ga...wire size is definably a enough, perfect size for the speaker knob's
always make sure when buy a full sound system, get them to chuck in free hdmi cables, speaker wire or you can say goodbye to them Last edited by blu_world; 12-14-2008 at 01:54 AM. |

Most places can't just "chuck" in free cables. That would be like you stealing them. If you want cheaper cables, buy them yourself or buy the cheapest ones the store has to offer if you don't feel like waiting.

There is so much digital processing going on in these systems that it can be a challenge to know what each piece of the system is doing. I wonder just how much communication is going on over the digital connections so that each piece of the system knows just what is OK to send to another component. |

apparently ( I have no idea myself) all HDMI cables regardless of price will give you exactly the same video and audio quality.
The Canadian Broadcasting Company (CBC) did tests and 20 or 30 dollar cables (or cheaper) and they performed as well as the $ 150 Monster ripoffs. |

I ran a search on Google and have a better understanding of the importance of 120 Hz refresh, but I don't see much point to the 240 Hz and 480 Hz refresh rates.
What type of video source is actually going to benefit from these new higher refresh rates? http://www.highdefdigest.com/news/sh...t_1080p24/1015 |

I hate you guys. I was just about to get a second loan on my house and buy a pair of 10 ft MIT Speaker Cables for a bargain price of $27,300. After reading this thread, I decided to wait.
![]() I guess I will wait until next year and mortgage my wife and children so that I can afford 25 ft of Audio Quest speaker wires. I believe it is worthed. They will cost around $58,000, but won't give me as much grief. ![]() Please don't pick on Monster. They are actually one of the good guys compared to AudioQuest, MIT, KimberCable, Tara Labs, Nordost-Frey, etc. ![]() Last edited by Big Daddy; 12-14-2008 at 11:41 PM. |

It may not make a visible or audible difference, but some cables do have a better build quality than others. Some cables also look nicer. So for those who can afford it there's nothing wrong with feeling like you're getting the best you can with the cable that's built better.
For me, I've used the $30 HDMI cable sold at Target and an expensive Monster HDMI cable and I prefer the Monster cable because it makes me feel like I've got the best and I also love the look of them; however, I do realize that it probably doesn't make much of a difference. Shrug. The only HDMI cable I've seen that is different is from Best Deal Cables because they have an interlocking tab that keeps the HDMI cable from coming loose. And before you neighsayers weigh in about how horrible that idea is, if you don't own them or haven't tried them then shut your mouth. They work great and are a step in the right direction. |

Have you tried Monoprice 24 AWG cables before (HDMI)?!? They seem like they would break your equipment if you tugged on them a bit.
