I saw this game at ComicCon and I must say it looked awesome. There are areas that could be improved upon. There was a lot of buzz around this game, I am surprised that a company does not want to own it. This game better come out this year. If it goes into development hell, I will be upset!

The latest release schedule from Activision Blizzard has just been submitted and there are two glaring absences: Ghostbusters and Brutal Legend. Gamesindustry.biz is reporting that they've been canceled, but let's all just take a deep breath for a moment.

Our sources have received word that Ghostbusters is still in production, so that's some good news. There's still no firm confirmation regarding Brutal Legend, but it had a pretty reasonable amount of hype going and it's hard for me to imagine it has been canned. Doesn't mean it hasn't, but I'd take this all with a very large grain of salt.

If I were forced to speculate (and I am) I'd suspect that this is just something that's been overlooked due to the complexities of the merger between Activision and Blizzard. I've heard stories of an entire studio being forgotten about in the shuffle of paper that's been going on, so failing to mention a couple of projects isn't all that surprising.

Still, I'm going to sleep a whole lot better once we hear that Brutal Legend is still in the works. I'd hate to see Tim Schafer sad.

*UPDATE*

We have a quote from the Sierra PR team regarding Ghostbusters: "It is not cancelled and will not be cancelled."

Considering that the PS3 is the lead platform for the title, even if Activision drops their publishing deal on the game, they "could" publish it with Sony, though it would nix the Xbox 360, Wii and DS versions.

A more likely scenario would be for EA or Ubisoft to pick up the spare, but this is one of those rare cases where I think it would be a good idea for Sony to flex some muscle and nab an exclusive.

while it'd be cool for sony to pick up, since its planned for every console, ea or somebody will take it

Since Sony owns the movie rights, it would be nice for them to gain publisher rights for this title as well, and turn it into an exclusive for the ps3. The advertising for the blu ray release of the movie at the same time as the game is a no brainer....

Knowing blizzard if they are going to cancel something they have a good reason. I have yet to see a bad game from them. If they were thinking that the game so far sucks then canceling is the best thing to do. I would rather a game be cancel because it sucks then released and it sucks. Money saved. I have seen to many games that have looked awesome but in the end sucked.

What, exactly, does this have to do with Blizzard?

I like that idea. If the release date gets pushed back, it would be worth it if they made it PS3 exclusive.

Hopefully, they won't push back the Blu-ray release date. I was looking forward to it.

Activision/Blizzard and the same company, which is in charge of the game...don't know if that's what you were asking.

The game is too close to being finished. It won't be canceled.

It's one of the few games I'm looking forward to.

Right, but he implied that it's Blizzard's quality control that would can Ghostbusters.

Activision/Blizzard has grown beyond that level of detail. Blizzard likely had zero to do with the decision. Certainly not to the level he's suggesting.

If you don't still separate the two Blizzard's reputation is going to drop like a rock, because Activision cranks out some real crap.
