Creativity.

Play platformer levels made by Media Molecule on your own or with friends offline/online 1-4 players.

Create platformer levels with super-easy to use tools on your own or co-operatively with friends offline/online 1-4 players.

Online community rates levels, crap levels drop and are harder to find, great levels rise up 'boards' and are easier to find and download.

There are various incentives (like resources used to create levels and objects players are proud to have created) which are won by playing and completing levels.

CES 2008: LittleBigPlanet: Death & Content to Solid Sack

Public beta/demo released long enough before release so feedback can be used to make changes. Game will come on Blu-ray, I don't think they've announced a PLAYSTATION Store release.

Q&A with Alex Evans of Media Molecule

Quote:
Q: Will there be air resistance in the game (will a feather or some such object fall slower than a chili pepper)?
A: Yes! And more...

Q: I got a question, will we be able to save our level if we weren't quite finished with it yet? Like, you are working on a level and you need to go to bed, can you save the level you are working on, then go back in the morning and start again to finish it?
A: Certainly!you can save several work-in-progress creations 'privately' on your PS3's harddrive, before unleashing them on the world when you're ready.

Q: will there be anti-aliasing?
A: yes.

Q: Will the game have SIXAXIS support? If so, how will it be implemented?
A: Absolutely! You can 'act' with your character using the sixaxis to control the movement of your character. This is one of Mark's favourite features - we love the fact that you can use 'analog' inputs like the sticks and the motion sensor, to create moves like a puppeteer, that aren't pre-canned - they're unique to you.

Q: For players who have experience with manipulating images, are their any requirements for stickers to have specified background colors or anything in order for them to be transparent?
A: the game can import stickers from your Playstation Eye, and from your PS3's XMB. We can't make any 100% announcements on the technical details at this stage - but the bottom line is we'll make it easy for everyone to make cool stickers with different shapes. If you're a budding 2D artist, you'll find it very easy to transfer your creations into the game as stickers - whatever the detailed specs end up being.

Q: these questions are complicated, here's a quick one... Whats up?
A: lots of work, a sore finger from moving desks, and a fair dose of excitement! (and coffee!)

LittleBigPlanet planning lip-synching voice chat, filters

Makes perfect sense. Now you have control over:

the legs - left analog stick
the arms - (shoulder button held?) + L/R analog sticks
the head - SIXAXIS tilt
the face - dpad to change expressions/mood
the mouth - speak into microphone

I wonder if the right stick does anything without the arm movement 'shoulder' button held. Also the L3/R3 buttons..

Maybe there could be some PLAYSTATION Eye integration, not just for it's mic.

Gamespot UK LittleBigPlanet Hands-On

Quote:
Using the "poppet" menu system, we could turn Sackboy into a raggedy old doll, a lizardlike creature, or even a Hellgast from Killzone. Sony stressed to us that the latter might not make it into the final game, but we had a lot of fun mixing up our appearance from the odd accessory to a complete physical makeover.
Quote:
When the full game is released, up to four people will be able to play locally or online in any combination of the two.
Quote:
The game will ship with enough levels for what the developer calls a "full-length single-player game," but there's the potential for practically unlimited new levels for those who can head online.
Quote:
LittleBigPlanet is looking as promising as ever, and we've no doubt its take on user-generated content will be the beginning of a new trend in the games industry. Along with Spore, it's pioneering the way in which players are interacting with gameworlds. Sony is aiming to release a beta test to journalists in the coming months, and even hopes to include some of their creations on the final Blu-ray disc of the game. Expect to hear more about the game in the run-up to its planned September release date.

OoooOooo nice. I love mixed co-op with local and online players .

Nothing beats a game that has all players on the same screen to avoid splitting the screen. Though you have to deal with the "COME ON LETS GO" of the guys who fall behind. But that's all fun.

This just keeps getting better and better. Last night falling asleep, I've already started to go over some level designs in my head. I cant wait to play with this.
