I went for Lolita, simply because it's his film that I enjoy the most (note: I like him quite a bit). It's def not his best film or even one of his top 3 films. It may be his fifth best film, but that's even arguable. Lolita is one of my favorite books, so it's obvious why I picked it.

The Killing -- one of the greatest heist films ever made! Film noir at its most hard boiled and grittiest. The cinematography and lighting is beautiful and stylish, showing Kubrick's talents as a photographer. The plot fractures linear story telling, jumping back in time during the robbery -- and it did it almost a decade before Tarantino was even a dirty thought in his father's mind.

Plus the film has Elisha Cook, Jr. and Timothy Carey, which makes it a must see in my book.

I would say The Shining, the best horror movie ever made IMO. All Kubricks films are visually stunning though, one of the greatest directors ever.

I didnt like 2001 ASO at all but i did respect the ideal and originality. But after watching A Clockwork Orange i can say he's good in my book for now.

I voted for 2001 as it was the film that introduced me to the power of the medium of movie-making.

Kubrick's output, in terms of quality, was astounding.

He produced the following:

A sci-fi masterpiece (2001),
A black-comedy masterpiece (Dr. Strangelove),
A horror masterpiece (The Shining)
2 war masterpieces (Paths Of Glory & Full Metal Jacket)
A social commentary mastepiece (A Clockwork Orange)
A costume-piece masterpiece (Barry Lyndon)

Add to that Spartacus and Lolita which I rate very highly.

You really only have left, Eyes Wide Shut (overlong erotic drama with moments but not adding up as a whole) and The Killing (B-grade movie that shows a real talent on display).

I've discounted the movies prior to The Killing as I haven't seen them.

I just felt underwhelmed with Full Metal Jacket. So i'll leave that out from my choice. And since i haven't watched everything from Kubrick, so far id pick The Shining.

"A Clockwork Orange" FTW! I love its imagery, its story, characters, themes; it's all very rich!

Almost picked "The Shining" though; that is one creepy movie.
