Default Favorite Kubrick.

What is your favorite Kubrick film? Why? What made it stand out? The images, the acting? The ideas... or something deeper?

Default 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968).

For me, it was 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968). His greatest film, and it still sticks with me.

What a film...

Oh man, tough one to call!
Strangelove is probably my pick, however Full Metal and 2001 are close.
I put down more than one.
The way Kubrick works the camera angles in Strangelove just never gets old.
Sterling is awesome. He's great in The killing aswell.
Strangelove has stuck with me from a very early age as my fav all time film.
Anytime it was on usually at midnight I'd sneak downstairs to watch it after my family went to bed.
Just watched Clockwork last night for the 2nd time on blu and it's neat picking out things older formats couldn't show.

Kubrick is just about my fav director or he is most days

Cheers and here's to Kubrick (Que-Brick)

I love all of Kubrick's work... but for me it is BARRY LYNDON. Every shot in that film is a thing of beauty, and I believe that it is one where Kubrick invested his heart the most (using a lot of his acquired knowledge and desire from his failed NAPOLEON project).

Is hard to decide but perhaps I'd go for Barry Lyndon.
Also Paths of Glory is very touching.
It's a difficult question because he never made a bad film.

The Shining, of course! Sacrilege to say otherwise!! Of course Eyes Wide Shut has some nice images of Nicole.

I could pick from 3 or 4 for my favorite. Today I'm going to go with Strangelove.

Honestly, I haven't seen one Kubrick film I didn't like, although I was lukewarm on Lolita.

What a film...
I agree Pullen. He had quite a few great films, but 2001 was his best.

Full Metal Jacket, casting R Lee Ermey as Gunnery Sargent Hartman was pure genius.

I'm not a huge Kubrick fan, but my favorite one that he did was A Clockwork Orange.

Bruce, I've seen a bunch of Hitchcock movies and think they're great but so long ago that I need to revisit them at some point. Most I've only seen once except for North By Northwest which I feel is an incredible ride.

I'll add that Eyes Wide Shut for me is the weakest link in the Kubrick chain.

While I would have liked Kubrick to complete A.I. himself, Spielberg did a good job. Not a true Kubrick flick but it works for me.

Oh hey, remember that in Vietnam the wind doesn't blow......It sucks!

I can't rightfully compare A Clockwork Orange, 2001, The Shining, Dr Strangelove, Full Metal Jacket, and Paths of Glory and say one is better than the other. They're all too drastically different. I will say I love them all very much.
