I agree with spidy. Diesel, that trailer was a pretty good improvement over the first. If they made something like that (with some audio and speech), it would have been a more successful advertisement.

4} The effects of the ring look nothing like they do in the comic either...

I mean at least Marvel {as a studio} is TRYING to get everything as true to the comic as they can.

Next thing you know Wonder Woman is going to come out with Wonder Woman being played by Ryan Reynolds.

Yea, that trailer that Diesel linked does look better minus the audio. I'm still holding on to the hope that after we get through the first 10 minutes of the move that it will be worth watching.

Maybe it's because that's in the comic (ink on a page) and this is on a film, either way, it's an incredibly loose nitpick

No they aren't. They're making just as many changes as there seem to be in the DC films. The only difference is that DC is severing the connected universe while Marvel is embracing it with cameos and crossovers.

No, I think he's right about that. The constructs appear to be too loose in form. The ring can technically project ANYTHING, but often does it in the form of a hard, green light. What we see in the trailer is a wispy gas that doesn't appear hard at all.

I'm hoping they'll either change that by the time the movie is done or they'll explain it that it requires greater focus to create more solid-looking constructs as a means of development for the climax. They have that scene in the trailer already referring to how a Green Lantern must be fearless, or, more accurately, be able to overcome fear. Maybe that will play into it.

Still doesn't make sense considering the costume/mask is a construct of the ring. They look plenty solid and not gaseous at all.

This I am willing to buy into.

At this point, the CG work is somewhat irrelevant to me (AVATAR has spoiled me). I don't mind what I saw in the trailer, as I found the effects serviceable. What bothered me from the onset are the dialogue and Reynolds' acting, neither of which can be corrected on a workstation or the editing room. I blame the poor screenplay, which the writers are responsible for.

I was excited for this movie, after seeing the trailer today before Harry Potter started, not so much anymore. Way too many jokes, his suit looks terrible (they should have used real clothes), just didn't seem like what I was expecting. Seems campy and back to the Fantastic Four type movies. Boooo.

I don't understand why this movie is being made.... I guess these comic-to-movie movies are really 'in' right now...but I feel like they should be working on another superman movie instead. They could easily include the GL anyways, lol. I don't know much about the GL seperate from the superman comics and GA comics.

Comic book movies have been "in" for the past decade; though, they seem to have really amped it up in the past 3 years or so. There is a huge market for them and we see that when Spider-Man 3 breaks B.O. records and The Dark Knight makes a billion dollars.

They are making a Superman movie. There are many superheroes that are vastly different from each other; so saying they should make one and not another is like saying we already have a comedy this summer, why make another. As for connecting the movies or having cameos, the future of Superman films at WB are not so solid.

I know but....I think it's gonna really suck ;__; lol
I'm still hoping for a modern-superman movie as good as the dark knight.

We'll see if it sucks. It does seem to have a lot of issues. I would just be surprised of Nolan would attach his name to a sinking ship and Snyder (who has a blossoming career) would jump on board.

I am still wondering where that 'space opera' is that was supposed to be green lantern.

The effects of the suit (and most of the effects in general) aren't finished yet though; that's why it doesn't look top notch (in a couple shots it looks fine). But if we get to the movie and it still looks like it does now with no improvement...feel free to say "I told you so! "

That one is something else that doesn't bother me. I prefer the way it looks here to just the solid block of light in the comics/cartoons....for the punch thing he just delivered at least. Making say a giant spring to slow something down probably wouldn't look that great in the style they used for the punch. Perhaps Afro is right and as he gets better with it the look will change, we don't see anyone else use their ring in the trailer so we can't be sure yet.

He would be wonderful (see what I did there?) in that role

My biggest fear is Ryan Renolds will be cracking jokes all the way through and this will be a light hearted comedy.

What, so we can have the DC version of X-Men Origins: Wolverine?

The last thing I would go by is the reaction at a harry potter movie. like a always say if people can perdict the future they should be in line for a lottery ticket. bottom line is no one knows what this movie is going to do untill it hits the theater.

The trailer kind of makes it look like that. I am hoping all the jokes in the trailer are there to get people to like it. I'm sure there will be lots of jokes, but I am hoping it will be just the right amount. It does look like Ryan Reynolds is serious in enough of the trailer. As to whether or not we will get a Smokin' Aces level performance, we'll see. I hope so.

I think you're underestimating the importance of the demographics of the Harry Potter audience. It's no longer just the kids that are picking up the HP books for the first time or this film being their first foray into the HP movie universe, you have the crowd that were there from the first HP films, those that grew up with the series, who are now into their late teens or early adulthood, and when you consider the range of those viewers as a whole, that's a very broad audience that Warner Brothers is trying to capture and captivate.

On the other hand, if you looked at this from the perspective of movie genres and content a typical HP viewer may be interested in, one could argue that s/he may not be particularly interested in graphic novels (i.e. comic books), but that would be an imprudent assumption.

There is no bigger vehicle this season than the latest installment of the Harry Potter franchise, and no crowd will be larger; if WB did not release a trailer now, it would have been a tremendous wasted opportunity. Having a prodigious crowd can be a double-edge sword: if the Green Lantern trailer was exceptional, positive word-of-mouth would transalte into even larger returns next summer; however, if it was mediocre (which this was), an inverse response is the likely outcome. First impressions do count for something.

Anyone else thinking we'll see a no jokes (or less jokes), more action/story oriented spot during the Super Bowl in February?

It's possible, but it's a huge gamble, seeing as a one-time 30-second broadcast will exceed $3 million quite easily. I didn't watch the last two Super Bowls, so this would be wasted on someone like me. It may depend on who the finalists are.
