Not too surprised. It does seem a little boring, kinda like Harry Potter: Deathly Hallows Part 1 compared to Part 2. I still think I'll love it tho.

True. I'm surprised Richard Corliss from Time gave it a negative review.

Not always, no. Transformers, Maleficent, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Hercules, Divergent, The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, and many other big-budget films have received negative reviews from him in the past.

That's not a bad little skit, Jen looks far more at ease than she did on her previous appearance although she still ****ed up the few lines that she had.

LOVED the Letterman interview though. That girl crazy.

What did they think would happen? The first half of the book is boring. It's just Katniss and a bunch of others sitting around moping about underground in District 13.

Yes, and they're simply confirming what we had suspected all along.

Well duh, makes me wonder if any of these reviewers actually read the novels before they wrote their reviews. I doubt it, will read Mockingjay again tomorrow myself.

Fidelity to dullness is not an adequate defense of the movie.

I am excited about and will go see the movie on Thursday, but I'm not expecting much to be honest.

Lionsgate is sending out a 4K encode: http://digitalcinema.bydeluxe.com/si...ease_-_DLA.pdf

I never said Mockingjay 1 was going to be an entertaining movie, it might even be boring to the point that it's not a very good movie at all. I will still see it at least once, Catching Fire is one of my favourite films of all-time after all.

I was very surprised to hear this one will not be screened in IMAX, especially after how good IMAX was handled in Catching Fire.

Was any of this actually shot on IMAX?

I'll be watching this on my #3 favorite screen in Minnesota. A 4K 3-story tall screen with leather recliners. (#1 being a 6-story IMAX, #2 being LIMAX).

Dormer's not pulling a duckface in that photo. How refreshing.

Nope, no IMAX whatsover. It was shot digital on Alexa. Some may say 'well, that didn't stop Skyfall from having an embiggened IMAX version' but that's because they shot that movie flat, not anamorphic like with Mockingjay.

They could have done DMR. I read IMAX chose to stay with Interstellar until Hobbit.

Just as well. Hopefully I can get back to see Interstellar in 70mm IMAX for a 3rd time.

Such a shame Interstellar is likely the last to use it. Nothing beats 70mm. Nothing.

DMR's just the IMAX terminology for 'upscaling'. I've seen Raiders, Blade Runner and Ghostbusters projected in 'mere' 2K digital at the same IMAX where I've seen a lot of proper 15/70 shows (inc. Interstellar) and they still looked amazing. True 15/70 is another kettle of fish, certainly, but if a movie wasn't shot on that format then I don't see the point in transferring it to large format for the sake of it.

The bigger the screen, the more special the experience is. Even if you don't "upscale", can you imagine seeing Casablanca in IMAX?

Has Interstellar been confirmed as the last IMAX film to be projected in 70mm? I'd imagine Star Wars next year would also be a candidate since it's been filmed with 70mm IMAX cameras. (Though if Interstellar has been confirmed as the last one I'll take back my words.)

Pretty sure it's the end of the road. IMAX isn't producing that many films anymore on 70mm so theaters are being forced into digital.

The IMAX theater near me just went from 70mm to IMAX 2K.

They kept the film projector for Interstellar, but I have a feeling that will be it.

~9000 lines of effective resolution in 70mm down to 2000. Pitiful.

In AMC LIMAX theaters I already have to sit near the back so I don't see pixels, I can't imagine what that will look like on a screen 4x bigger (I haven't gone to their digital presentations yet).

There is another theater near me that uses a 4K projector, but I don't think their film source is 4K.
