Heat 4K UHD (1995)

I know bias lights are supposed to be better for your eyes and improve perceived contrast, but they reduce the ambiance so much. I use it normally for more casual viewing, like TV shows.

Because the Heat (and Roger Rabbit) release got pushed back. No one knows until when.

The idea never appealed to me because I enjoyed watching a calibrated display in the room as dark as possible. Always felt more cinematic.

Are you saying you didn't get one of those Philips backlight LCDs from the mid '00s that touted their active backlight feature?

Always thought those were a terrible idea, along with curved TVs (monitors are another story), and Sharps "R-G-B-Yellow" pixel sets. Makes people afraid to invest in actual new tech because they're getting gimmicks all the time.

The same person who "suggested" an Aug. 31 date for Heat is now saying end of year or even 2022. Heat was somehow leaked worldwide, as a few online retailers have it listed with various dates.

This was my most anticipated UHD release of the year, so this is a bummer. Shame on me for believing in leaks and weird listings before it's official. You usually get burned.

Well I’m afraid you’ll have to settle for another revisionist botch-job by an increasingly blind and deaf Michael Mann.

The Jap blu remains my go-to version. Accurate colours, decent detail levels and great audio.

in Germany it can still be preordered from Mediamarkt/Saturn/JPC, placeholder release date Dec. 31st 2021, it is definitely going to be released, I can't imagine cancelling them

Digital 4k dropped to $5 on iTunes if interested.

The digital code from my bluray redeemed in HD on Movies Anywhere which ported to iTunes, but still would not play in iTunes's 4k. Tried to buy the digital 4k from iTunes and iTunes wouldn't let me, since it thought I already had it. Just kept trying to play the HD version. Had to contact MA and request they remove it so I could buy/watch the 4k version.

Anyone else had to jump through this many hoops to watch the 4k version of a digital movie that used to be available only in HD but is now available in 4k? Am I going to have to delete all the digital movies I have in HD and repurchase in 4k as they become available?

You should have went to foxredeem and selected iTunes to get the 4K that way instead of MA, since that will always give HD rights. Also, iTunes wouldn't play it in 4K since the 4K upgrade only works for those that bought or redeemed codes directly thru iTunes. So, MA imports don't get the upgrade.

It does suck that iTunes doesn't make it easy to upgrade from HD to 4K from HD MA imports, but you can gift the movie to yourself and to get 4k rights.

Yeah, I try redeeming all of my digital codes in iTunes first. I'd say a very small percentage redeem in iTunes without an issue, but most of my digital codes are very old. As you mentioned, some require you to go to the studio's digital code page, some don't. Some were meant for digital services that have since gone out of business. Some will only redeem in Vudu. Some don't redeem at all. It is pretty frustrating.

But having a copy in MA was definitely preventing me from buying the 4k Heat from iTunes last night. The HD copy has since been removed from MA and the 4k has been purchased through iTunes.

Such a good movie.
