The only thing that really bothers me about the Rocky Vs. Drago cut is at the end of the movie when Rocky touches gloves with Drago after the fight. I get he wanted to tone down the whole super villain angle and humanize Drago a little more, but if that were the case then he should have removed the scene where Drago pushes away the referee when he was trying to stop the fight with Apollo. I just don’t see Rocky being cool with Drago after that.

I disagree. I think the reason Duke's speech wasn't in the theatrical version is because Rocky's speech is basically the same. All that talk about the Warrior's code. So the 2 of them saying the same thing wouldn't work. Stallone is my favorite actor, so seeing him really give it in that scene is wonderful. The Director's Cut as a whole isn't great, but I also agree that this version of the scene is better (though I do prefer Vince DiCola's music in that scene, rather than the sad music from Rocky 2 and 3 being used yet again).

Ok that's a fair assessment. I just could not tolerate that mumbling Rocky was doing during the funeral scene. Besides that I think they should have kept all the extra funeral scenes. Also the part where Duke asked about the sparring partners should have been kept in the theatrical. I thought the kitchen scene was kind of ridiculous.

I completely agree with 1-4 looking amazing. That's exactly what I want from 4K releases. I want them to look "rough" with no touch-ups. Scan and grade, then leave it the hell alone.

I've not got Rocky V or Balboa yet, but I saw some screenshots and there's one of Sage Stallone from Rocky V that looks terrible though. All detail is wiped away from his face, it looks like it's from a dream sequence where it's so soft and smooth.

Again, keep in mind all the trick opticals that Avildsen used on V. As I said in my review there's a shot of Sage which has an added zoom, all done optically, blowing up the grain to silly proportions and making it look shockingly poor on the Blu. For the UHD they've 'managed' the grain and made that shot very smudgy and soft. Six of one, half a dozen of the other.

It does. And not only that, it also includes the missing piano cue in the 5.1 now too.

Unexpected surprise. I have had the Rocky collection in my VUDU account for years. Just noticed Rocky Balboa Director's Cut was added to my collection. Just a heads up.

The entry on dvdcompare.net is wrong. The bonus disc is missing in the Spanish Knockouts set (own it).

That doesn't matter anyway, as the only thing the Spanish set misses, is the Rocky vs. Drago doc (which is cut down anyway) and trailers for the movie.

Plus, some Rocky special features are missing on the bonus disc but remain on the original 2014 disc included in the combo.

I prefer the Theatrical of Balboa too, the way Rocky meets Marie in that version is better.
Will probably never watch the Rocky vs Drago cut of IV ever again either, that cropped ratio is too much.

I don't know of this has been covered or not - I have scanned many of the previous pages...

I got this set on day of release from Wow HD but only just had a chance to open it. To my... disappointment, while the outer slip is pristine, all of the trays in the set are covered with some kind of oily substance and so are all of the discs! Furthermore the case doesn't close - there are no hooks to snap it shut at all.

Is this common for this £70 set?! Really annoyed I gotta say...

So picked up the US set to ensure I got the corrected discs.

A few observations, really dislike the greeny blacks on Rocky. I know it's the remaster but they looked that way on the dvd I thought by now the would have neuralised the blacks for 4k to make less green looking.
His leather jacket looks silly greeny black most of the time.

Man these films are grainy, aside from the new Rocky IV cut, that I really like. It's much better in my view despite the silly aspect ratio. I watched the Theatrical afterwards and by god it's cringy in comparison, so definitely sticking with the new cut. So back to the grain, I had to lower the sharpness slightly and a few other bits on the TV to not make it crawl with ants on Rocky 1-3.

Rocky V and both cuts of Rocky Balboa to go.

The robot all scenes, Rocky with his kid washing the car, the repetitive music all the way through. Even some of the Brigitte Nielsen stuff is a bit ridiculous.

Yeah just too many things that I can see why Stallone wanted to change it. I like the new cut and the film is better, I think the HDR seems off as there seems to be a ceiling to the brighter shots not apparent in the Theatrical version. Aspect ratio is still a bit silly but it just about gets away with it.

I assume you meant neutralized, rather than an MiB ref, lol. Joking aside though, the green is from the real-world street lights of the era used for exteriors. They cast a green tint, and that's the original color. As you noted, it's always been this way, but I would argue that no change should be made. That's the color of this movie, so that's what "neutral" is IMHO.

Also, grainy? Yeah, film has grain. I'm not sure what "ants" you're talking about, as it looks like natural-ish grain to me. With you adjusting sharpness and such so readily, perhaps your display needs a calibration reset, including the disabling of any auto/"smart" settings, to get it showing that grain properly? Maybe a filmmaker mode or something? (not a dig, just wondering) Regardless, like my above color argument, removing, lessening, or otherwise changing that grain from the look of the film the movie was captured on would be wrong. It should be "grainy."

Aside from the compression issues that others have mentioned (and the lack of original audio), since the corrected disks, this is a nice presentation of Rocky.
