Congrats!!! That is always a great feeling when you need new clothes because the clothes are too BIG versus the other way around.

2 miles in under 30 minutes is not too bad for a first time out. That is about 4mph which is almost a jog. Was that straight walking or walking and jogging? If it was straight walking, I would do a 5 minute brisk walk, jog for 1 minute, walk briskly for 5 minutes, and repeat for 30 minutes.

The next time you can do one of two things. Either try for another 15 minutes longer, or try a 2 minute jog every other time -- 5 minute brisk walk, 2 minute jog, 5 minute brisk walk, 1 minute jog, repeat.

This will help you build your stamina. Also, interval training is better for your body, IMO. Unless you are running a 5K, 10K, etc. for time.

Anyway, great job on your first day out! Do this every other day if you can at a minimum.

it was a straight walk, no jogging. although there were a couple times i was walking a bit faster than normal. i have a playlist on my phone titled "workout" and i use that. it has some nice bpm songs in the beginning, picks up the pace towards the middle and then slows down a bit towards the end. i let that dictate by speed.

i figured i'd just walk for the first 2-3 weeks to try and get some stamina built up, then try to put in some jogging here and there.

and thanks. i was gonna go out yesterday, which would've been 2 days in a row, but i figured i'd just keep it at every other day for now and try to go to every day after a while. plus it rained most of the day yesterday, so maybe that was nature's way of telling me that i shouldn't go every day just yet.

put in my 2 miles (well, 1.96) a little while ago. i got done a little before 12:00. i went a different route than i did saturday. i'm trying to mix it up a bit so it doesn't get boring.

i had a 17:04/mi average; which is a bit slower than on saturday. but i did have a small hill that i went up on the new route so that may have made a difference on my speed.

and i've been using the nike running app on my phone as i walk so it gives me total time, total distance and average time/mile at each minute interval. plus i can set up my "workout" playlist to play as i'm walking so it overlays the nike info while the music is playing.

i just got through eating some lunch and drinking a g2 and feel pretty good.

Good job there bud!!!

As much as I ride my bike, and all the great help my bike has been to my joints, I look forward to getting my weight down to where I can jog. My wife seems to like jogging lately, and I feel bad when she ask me if I want to go jog with her.

One day, I will break this evil plateau that I’m stuck in.

I feel my bike is much better for my joints, too.

Do you have access to a pool? Maybe you could look into water-based exercise programs. I did some classes at my local YMCA a few years back when I messed up my knee. It was great because the buoyancy of your body doesn't put as much downward pressure on your knee, but the resistance of the water works your joints harder. It is a win win situation, IMO.

Walking, high knees, light jogging in water are some of the things that I remember doing during my classes.

I maybe overrating it a bit, but I feel that getting that bike saved my life or better yet, I know it has contributed to extending it.

Reason I say it like that, I was having painful gout attacks. It was terrible and not just the attack itself, but the damage it would do to my joints.

My joints were so bad I would have to rest too often, I would have to break up cutting my grass into 2 days, and I have a small yard.

One day I would cut the front, I would have to rest the next day, then I would continue and finish the back yard(a 3 day process).

Now that I have the bike, and I worked myself into a little shape I started feeling much better. I would ride a little further and my lungs would feel FANTASTIC! ! ! !

Now, I cut the front yard, back yard and still take my bike for a 10-15 mile ride(all in the same day).

I love my bike, and I try to promote bike riding to everyone I know and meet.

did another walk today.

i didn't run yesterday 'cause i did some yard work for a few hours so i think i got in plenty of exercise. i sweat about 3 hours straight so that felt like exercise to me.

went 2.63 miles with an avg. of 16:16/mi. i walked a total of 42:49, which is my longest so far.

felt really good.

and i'm loving these shoes, too. my feet don't feel tired and they don't hurt at all.

I've tried a new way of eating I can live with and is helping ,e drop weight.

Mon-Fri: gluten free, dairy free, refined sugar free (as much as possible)- and stick to 1650 calories.

Saturday: Cheat day- try to stay under 3000 calories
Sunday: same as Mon-Fri, but add 400-500 calories

I've lost 11.5 lbs so far in about a month. I'm going to stay on this until I reach my goal, and then I'll just add calories during the week to stop losing weight. I feel so good all week. I vitamix veggie smoothies, juice veggies, and eat salads with lean protein.

another outing in the books (or on the phone, as it were).

went 2.97 miles in 50:24....avg of 16:56/mi.

thankfully it wasn't too hot out today like it was on friday. i thought i was gonna roast friday, it was so humid but i went out anyway. i feel much better afterwards today than i did friday. i didn't feel bad friday, just a little more drained due to the humidity. but today it's nothing like that at all.

i may start going out more. it depends on how i feel tomorrow.

and i really want to increase my stamina so i can stay out longer and so i don't get so winded when i'm doing things as simple as yard work.

You're showing great improvement! Almost 3 miles! Wow! Keep it up!

I didn't get home from school clothes shopping for the kids until 1015pm last night. Not wanting to miss a workout, I went to the gym at 1115pm and did 70 mins on the elliptical and burned 1252 calories! Not bad, not my best, but not bad for a midnight workout! The crappy part was that I had to get up for work at 430a this morning and am dragging ass today....but the streak is still alive....haven't missed a workout since I started on Feb. 11! Down 77 lbs now!

i think that's the problem a lot of people have. they miss once, and it's easier to miss another then another. you have got to be committed from the beginning and not stop. i think those first 2 weeks are the hardest for just about anyone. that's when your body resists the most and you just feel like it's not doing anything good for you. but it's the long run (no pun intended.....well, maybe) at which you have to look. losing weight is not an instant thing; at least not in a healthy way.

congrats on losing the 77...keep it up, but don't waste away

and i just got back from another outing.

3.12 total miles
16:46/mi avg.
52:22 total time

total miles and total time are both personal records. per mile average is just a little off my personal best.

but i did throw in a short jog at the very end.

i'm gonna try to go out every day this week.

Great job! Remember rest days are very important as well! Thanks, I am actually just 1 lb from my goal weight I had in my head when I first started working out in February of 210 lbs (from 288 lbs)!

I took my puppy (88 lb 7 month old English Mastiff named Brooklyn!) for a 3.1 mile walk from my house to the community forest and back. She loved it and burned 446 Calories on my "off" day from working out. I did 70 minutes on the elliptical machine today at level 19 and burned 1301 calories.

I'm curious as to how you are arriving at the number of calories burned? Just reading the machine? Most people wouldn't burn anywhere near 1300 calories running for an hour, much less on the elliptical. Not downplaying your achievements, I am just curious. How many strides a minute do you average? If you run, how far and fast do you go? Again, that is quite an accomplishment and something I can't do.

Yes, the machine tracks it. I put my weight into the machine prior to starting. Level 19 out of 25 is like walking through 2 feet of snow without snow shoes! The heart rate monitor usually has me at 160-166. It's hard work, but it pays off! I usually do between 4 and 4.25 miles in 70 minutes.
