Not arguing about this and not questioning you but I didn't notice an improvement. I always like to learn so am wondering what you discovered from your prof regarding this..

Maybe I am doing things wrong so please don't take this the wrong way.

There are no waveforms on the disc. The only thing on any CD, whether RedBook, SACD or Blu-ray, is lands and pits. How do lands and bits result in a different sound (better or worse) by playing them? Even if the playback laser "burned" the CD and changed the pits, it would not change the sound as long as it could still read the existence of each pit (assuming it didn't change the timing of reading the pits).

Perhaps you should study the science of digital audio before making such statements.
I never claimed any digital improvements, all I said is that you will notice an improvement in sound (like many of us have reported). Intuitively, it is something related to how the brain recognizes certain patterns. While I study the science of digital audio, you should study critical reading skills (available at most middle schools throughout America).

I didn't think you were arguing - it is interesting topic.

A Swinging' Affair SACD did come out, some people already have it.

If that's the case, then it would happen when one listens to any CD. I think the clear implication of your original post is that it happens to this CD.

I don't care if "many" have reported this. I might report that my car runs better after I get it washed. Doesn't make it true.

A Swinging' Affair SACD will arrive by Saturday. I can't wait.

I had no issues over at the Steve Hoffman forums. Nice bunch of people.

I picked up "Countdown to Ecstasy" by Steely Dan, MCAD-37041 / DIDX-372, Manufacturered in Japan for MCA Records, no bar code on back.

Now I just need to pick up:

Can't Buy A Thrill: MCAD-37040
Pretzel Logic: MCAD-37042
Katy Lied: MCAD-37043

Aja: MCAD-37214 DIDX 55 (looking for the Nichols/Hoffman version). I have the SHM-SACD and '99 remaster.
Gaucho I have the hybrid SACD which sounds fantastic.

I really don't understand how playing the SHM-SACD numerous times improves the sound.

I spend more time there than any other message board, the main reason being the huge amount of traffic there discussing topics I'm interested in. There is a ton of knowledge and some really nice people there. But hang around long enough and you'll run into some very "contentious' (to put it nicely) people there as well.

The board w/ the highest "NQ" (niceness quotient) IMO is quadraphonic quad. Great place for music lovers, esp. if you're into surround sound (not just quad, any surround). Their polls on surround discs are very informative and a great source of info for researching sales.

quadraphonicquad.com/forums/forum.php

But IME nothing beats the info available at SHF, due to the sheer numbers.

All of those should be coming within the week. Am I crazy? Most people I talk to have no idea what an SACD is and probably would not track down 30 year old CDs.

I don't think it does

I think maybe some are saying the brain is playing tricks; is what I get from reading their posts.

Man, you must have a real nice collection of SACD's

Thumbs up SACDs have risen from the grave (obviously!)

You know, for a "dead format," I've managed to pick up more new SACD releases in the past couple of months than I have in the past couple of years! From The Buggles to Styx to the Moody Blues to the Carpenters to Hall & Oates to Chicago to Yes to XTC (to name some off the top of my head), it's been a blast.

I'm not sure if the renewed interest is because Blu-ray Audio has cracked the door on hi-resolution releases, but I don't really care what the reason is so long as I can once again by more titles!

Now if only those unreleased 5.1 Elton John titles could finally see the light of the day...

How many of your new SACD releases are 5.1? I haven't seen any new multichannel SACDs for a while. They all seem to be stereo only.

My newest 5.1 SACDs are The Who, Tommy (although I do not like the 5.1 mix), Yes "Fragile", the 5.1 is incredible on that disc.

As an aside: Just received Rod Stewart: Every Picture Tells a Story on SACD (2-channel, Japan Import) it is another excellent sounding disc ... I owned 3 different versions on LP and vocals are considerably better (if memory serves right).

The toughest part of giving up my vinyl was the Sinatra Capitol recordings, but MOFI has already released quite a few and they sound better than my LPs in most cases; and my LPs are first-pressings.

It is just a niche market and pretty much always has been.

I don't think anything to do with BD specifically but there seems to be some more interest to release HiRes music. I seem to notice titles coming out both in SACD and HiRes downloadable files. For HiRes music, I hope the music studios don't care about format, just that they release it in any or all formats than we can pick and choose which is best.

for me, if only 2 Channel, I prefer to download the files. If multi-channel, I will prefer to buy the SACD or the BD. Between BD and SACD multi-channel??? Not so sure but that hasn't been an issue yet.

The two multichannel SACDs that top my list for re-release are Billy Joel's The Stranger and Depeche Mode's Violator. If I could have those for a normal price, I would be elated.

Billy Joel's The Stranger is getting a Blu-ray Audio release. It should have the 5.1.
