Which has led to the belief that there are no dwarf women and that dwarves just spring out of holes in the ground, which is of course ridiculous.

Sure did. They did a fabulous job in just about every regard. Sure, a few things changed or were left out but you almost have to do that with film adaptations of books - especially huge ass books like LOTR. Jackson pulled off the almost impossible. Casting, writing, direction, etc. etc. = Perfect(almost in every regard).

I would have liked having Jackson in charge of this new TV show but its clear the Hipster Amazon execs are the writers here. Oh well.

I don't get the negativity, the trailer was great imo. Really looking forward to it!

They had nothing to do with the films or anything else, nor did they have the right to be, per the licensing agreement made with Saul Zaentz back in the day. So Saul got some of the rights from United Artist, who got them from Tolkien.
Man all of the rights for this stuff is a mess.
