Why would they give the money back? They did the job they were contracted to do. Would you give up your salary if you were supposed to turn in a work project that didn't turn out well because your boss is an idiot and he ignored every single one of your suggestions?

Some do. Christian Bale, for example, said he'd never work with McG again. I'd say that kind of thing happens more often than you'd think but the actors don't publicly declare it because they A) don't want to get in trouble and B) don't want to ruin anybody's career

Well, that goes both ways. Very often when actors have good faith ideas to fix a weak film they get accused of being difficult or being primadonnas, as happened with Ed Norton when he basically ended up rewriting the script for The Incredible Hulk because the original script was trash.

I have returned money on Work for Hire jobs if I did not like the direction of the project. I have also turned down projects based on who else is on board. I just think most of them know what they are getting into, yet have no problem taking the money. Then doing nothing to change things. If Directors and Actors refused to work with writers who have bad track records things will eventually change. Yet they will not and the train will keep rolling.

Well, good on you. I daresay you're an outlier. Most people would not return money that could feed, clothe and house them, for a job that they felt was done to the best of their ability

Of course they have no problem taking the money. It's 6-8 weeks of work for, at minimum, $3-5k a week, and you'd better believe that the name actors are making way more than the minimum.

No they won't because, as mentioned, the problem is not the writers, or even the directors. The problem is the executives who control all the money and have their own ideas about how a film should be written or how a film should be shot, what should be included in a film, etc.

She'll do fine because she is smart enough to do more than just act. I'm sure she made quite a bit as a producer on Anyone But You and she is also a producer on her next film Immaculate.

Agreed on all. I have heard a lot of stories most coming from agents. They know exactly what is happening in the boardrooms. For the project it was some upfront pay, which I returned because I did not want my name associated with it.

Not to mention various projects including a Barbarella remake with Sony.

As she’s previously hinted during the movie’s publicity tour, Johnson said the project’s script about a paramedic with psychic powers was radically changed from what she originally read. But in retrospect, Johnson also felt like she perhaps isn’t the right choice for the comic book movie world (even though some critics thought her line readings in the film were the best thing about the movie).

Dakota Johnson Says She'll Never Do Anything Like Madame Web Again

https://comicbook.com/movies/news/ma...-future-plans/

Quote:
"But it was definitely an experience for me to make that movie. I had never done anything like it before," the actor expressed. "I probably will never do anything like it again because I don't make sense in that world. And I know that now. But sometimes in this industry, you sign on to something, and it's one thing and then as you're making it, it becomes a completely different thing, and you're like, 'Wait, what?' But it was a real learning experience, and of course it's not nice to be a part of something that's ripped to shreds, but I can't say that I don't understand."

Nice bit of removing context to make it vague enough for MCU fans narratives.

Here's the actual stuff:

Quote:
Have the last two weeks been weird? A lot has happened since I saw you playing with baby animals on set for the shoot.

Yeah. I had the LA premiere for Madame Web and then went to Mexico City. I had pneumonia and was on steroids and the nebulizer and doing all these little things, and I was really, really sick and felt horrible. I looked horrible. I was like, Ugh. And then the movie came out and it was… [Pauses.] Like, I can’t take any of it seriously at all. I dunno.

Does it bother you when people write nasty reviews?

Unfortunately, I’m not surprised that this has gone down the way it has.

Is there a reason for that?

It’s so hard to get movies made, and in these big movies that get made — and it’s even starting to happen with the little ones, which is what’s really freaking me out — decisions are being made by committees, and art does not do well when it’s made by committee. Films are made by a filmmaker and a team of artists around them. You cannot make art based on numbers and algorithms. My feeling has been for a long time that audiences are extremely smart, and executives have started to believe that they’re not. Audiences will always be able to sniff out bullsh*t. Even if films start to be made with AI, humans aren’t going to f*cking want to see those.

But it was definitely an experience for me to make that movie. I had never done anything like it before. I probably will never do anything like it again because I don’t make sense in that world. And I know that now. But sometimes in this industry, you sign on to something, and it’s one thing and then as you’re making it, it becomes a completely different thing, and you’re like, Wait, what? But it was a real learning experience, and of course it’s not nice to be a part of something that’s ripped to shreds, but I can’t say that I don’t understand.

knowing Sony, they probably trapped her in an multiple movie contract, even if she wants to never do it again, Sony will force her to do the movies

I don’t think Dakota has to worry much about getting a call back from Sony concerning the next CBM project from the Spider-Verse after this latest box office performance.

You’d probably have a better chance of getting a continuation of The New Mutants than Madame Web at this point.

At least she's honest that it was terrible I didn't watch it and don't want to. She's also in agreement in that audiences are smart and that executives think the audiences aren't smart. Great takes from her especially considering how many crazies are in Hollywood these days Rachel Zegler being an incredibly infamous example. And probably the most toxic individual in Hollywood these days.
