Everything said on SNL is factual, unless it is not.
Didn't they grab the same thing from when Dakota was on there?

I wouldn’t say she’s necessarily trashing the movie, she stating an unfortunate fact, could also be in reference to the fact he wouldn’t really even recognize her because of how the speckled and different she looks in madam web here compared to other movies, EH?

This movie looks mildly interesting but it wasn't enough to get me into the theater. I'll check it out down the road if it's ever on TV by some miracle instead of only on Disney.

It's not a Disney movie; it's a Sony one.

If you think that way, you should at least check it on a cheap night, you may very well like it :-)

it's called being able to poke fun at oneself. And it takes a great amount of class to be able to do pull it off.

At first I was wondering what happened to the agreement that Sony signed with Netflix before that but then I realized that Netflix is just getting it first.

Why blame the actors at all? They just perform. They don't write the script, direct the film, edit the film, produce the film. Yes, a charismatic actor can make a mediocre script work, but even the BEST actor in the world can't do anything with a terrible script.

The suits want you to blame the actors because they're the most visible part of the film. They're the most visible part but they're also the part that has the least to do with the quality of the finished product.

The director's the one who's most to blame for a film's quality because, in a bygone era at least, the director's the one with the most power on set. If a script is crap, he gets his script doctors in to rewrite it. On the Donner Superman film, the original script by Mario Puzo was like 500 pages long and it was very camp, so Donner got his friend Tom Mankiewicz in to completely rewrite the entire thing and, according to Mankiewicz, they didn't use a word of the Puzo script. If an actor's performance is crap, he finds ways to mitigate that. On Apocalypse Now, Brando showed up to set massively overweight so Coppola made him wear black, shot him mostly in shadow and used a body double for certain scenes.

The problem these days is that not even the director or the writer has the power over a film any more. It's the producers who tell them how to direct and what to write, and the producers are almost uniformly idiots. This is why you get largely TV directors directing these kinds of films, because TV directors are used to that kind of environment.

I watched the monologue and took it as a joke that not a lot of people went to see Madame Web.

I'm just the opposite. If a film is crap, why can't they admit it? I have a lot more respect for actors who come right out and tell you a film is no good than actors who pretend a film is the best thing since sliced bread for about six months and then come out years later and say 'oh yeah, that was no good'

Thanks. No really good chances during the Matinee weekday due to work, but I imagine I'll see it in the next few years somewhere. Maybe ABC will broadcast it on their Disney Sunday night.

Crap talking about movies they're in isn't the best way to continue getting hired for roles. If you work, there are no doubt plenty of issues with the company but if you talk trash you probably won't be employed there long.

Konner & Rosenthal kept getting hired, and they were two of the biggest hacks in the business.

Star Trek VI writer/producer Leonard Nimoy's experience with them was unbelievable, and yet they still kept getting work.

I 'get' that, but if you've made, say, Battlefield Earth there's no use going around on the press tour pretending you've made Citizen Kane

One of my favourite actors, Humphrey Bogart, went around shit talking the studio system, films he'd made, people he'd worked with, etc. all the time. Yes, it got him into trouble with bosses and didn't make him especially popular with Hollywood types. But what also happened is the press and public warmed to him because they found his candour and honesty refreshing. Robert Mitchum was similar.

Hollywood being a giant echo chamber, where everyone reinforces each other and everyone is afraid to offer even constructive criticism is probably one of its biggest problems. It's refreshing once in a while to see an actor honestly admit their most recent work was no good.

People just fail upwards in Hollywood. The Bond writers, for example, got hired to write Bond off the back of writing a total critical and commercial flop and then went on to write Die Another Day and yet somehow miraculously have kept their jobs

Constructive Criticism is fine. Yet how many of them are presenting solutions? Are they giving back the money, or donating it to charity. Do they refuse to work with certain creatives teams? If they are not doing that, then their words are hollow. Some of them are part of the problem, because they bring their own writers a long, or throw hissy fits on set.
