Guys, I don't know why some of you are acting so surprised. After Chris Allen won over Adam Lambert, nothing should surprise you. Yes Idol is a popularity contest. Pure and simple. However, there has to be a reason WHY some of these contestants have less support than others. Why did the American audience prefer Lauren over Pia or Haley? Why did they prefer Scotty over James or Casey? Also, some of you are simply allowing your opinion of who is the best to be fact instead of your opinion. "Haley was the best." Well, ok if that's how you feel then fine. However I'm sure I can find just as many who say Lauren is the best. It's all about personal choice. Besides, it's not exactly as if Lauren is chopped liver. She's a very talented singer. Even back during her audition Steven Tyler said himself "I think we found the one!" And "Yo Yo Dawg" said "best we've heard all day!!" So even back then the judges knew she was a talent.

Keep this in mind, historically the person who comes in 3rd a lot of times deterimines the winner. Will Haley's votes go to Lauren or Scotty? That's exactly what happened to Chris Allen. When Danny Goki came in 3rd, all of his fans voted for Chris. That's how he beat Adam even though Adam probably should have won. However look now at who's on the charts and who isn't.

Congrats to Haley for making it to the top 3! I sure didn't think she would make it this far but she did. She was at the bottom two in the earlier rounds but she hang in there and outlasted even James and Pia who were my picks to make it to the finale. My favorite 3rd place finisher was Elliott Yamin from season 5. Best wishes to Haley!

Idol is a popularity contest and while Scotty and Lauren weren't my choices to be in the finale, they have the talent and charm, evident even during the auditions, and I can see how they appealed to the mostly teen voters of AI. I'll still be watching the finale next week and look forward to seeing the top 12 again. Good luck to Scotty and Lauren!

I think most American Idol winners are from smaller communities who rally around the contestant and have voting parties and such. I think that is why contestants like Haley(Chicago) & Adam Lambert(San Diego) rarely win. Then there is the tween & Cougar votes which is why people like Scotty, Kris Allen & the 2 Davids make it as far as they do.

I liked Haley a lot especially after the past few weeks performances when she really got into her groove. I'm not a big country fan so the final is a bit of a letdown for me personally--I doubt I would ever listen to any album from Scotty--just not my style. Probably would check out an album by Lauren since she is more into the country pop genre--Taylor Swift style.

Still, this was a good season and there was indeed a lot of talent to go around--certainly more than last year--and I think all of the top 3 have good prospects--and I think we'll see and hear more from them in the future--unlike last year's winner.

I have a friend that voted for Scotty, I shit you not, five hundred times via text or however you vote. He's winning. His fanbase is to rabid.

Of course it'll die once he has to actually make his own music and not sing other peoples songs.

Scotty should have been gone before Casey, he's too country and has no range in other styles. Clearly the Southern states are the only ones voting this year.
