When I first read that, I thought you wrote a "deceased" screen.

I would not tolerate anything on my screen that detracted from the feature presentation. Reducing the viewing area would be an unpardonable sin and any such offending service would be excommunicated.

And Netflix gets what benefit out of doing this to someone not participating in a group watch?

You made me remember a story of one of the first forums I was on.

There was one forum I was at years ago, where there was a guy who had like 20,000+ posts or so. (He probably had more posts on that forum then anyone else) He seemed cool and everyone liked him. So they made him a Mod one day.

After becoming a Mod, the guy went mad with power and started suspending a bunch of other members for tiny little things and he also started randomly deleting other member's posts for no reason. It was causing all kinds of trouble in the forum, so eventually the other Mods decided to revoke his Mod power and suspend him for good.

Well, I presume Netflix will integrate some form of social media into their service in the foreseeable future. More people hooked on social video sessions means less time anywhere else. Same with Facebook. It’s all about getting people hooked on group watching.

I wouldn’t either. Who could stop them though?

No.

They aren’t going to force people to chat and watch shows. I have no idea about your country, but I’m pretty sure a service that shrunk a picture and made it difficult for people with disabilities and those considered loners would get them sued and violate FCC regulations.

I agree but as noted earlier, Netflix forces previews and noway to disable it. I have no problem with previews but have a big problem with not being able to disable that feature. I am paying them and they should cater to what I want.

One used to could view videos on YouTube without commercials but that is no longer true. Don't have the paid version, so folks with it would have to comment about the commercials.

I learned that my sister bought herself a new 4K TV and it is getting delivered tomorrow. I guess I know what I will be doing this weekend as I will be expected to set it up.

I don't mind, but it is rather short notice. I may be retired, but I'm a very busy man.

I agree the auto-play trailers can be annoying, especially the new large ones for their originals. That said, I have watched stuff I otherwise wouldn't if not for a snippet of trailer making me interested, lol.

They should offer a feature to disable them.

Yes, but everytime, that was my Pet Peeve with Disc. With my Back-ups all that Junk was gone, and when Digital came we are right into the Movie!

That was one of the advantages of having DVD-R discs over commercial ones in that the start-up screen showed up immediately after inserting the disc.

I know what you mean though, but in all honesty it's something that's never really bothered me all that much even if it can be a nuisance. I'd rather go through that than have no disc at all.

I know what you mean, it's the same with my parents. For some reason they seem to think I'm a qualified electrician, plumber, mechanic, carpenter, and general problem solver - bless them.

Yep, I think we’ve all participated in forums like that from one time or another. Most of the ones I moderated or admin’d in had a separate area to discuss things before the hammer came down. We’d usually use an impartial staff member handle the punishment. Difference there was, we left the posts up, issued a warning/suspension with the infraction in the post. When posts disappear it leaves things up to interpretation and most of the time it is usually wrong

My expertise stops at setting tech up. I am hopeless at DIY. I always buy ready assembled!

So am I mate, but it doesn't stop them asking me. I don't mind basic electrical stuff or any simple repairs, but anything that involves making something or working with wood, I get out the good old Yellow Pages. Woodwork was my worst possible subject at school - couldn't even make a simple joint.

LOL.
I'm sure even my woodwork teacher used to smirk at my feeble attempts when I wasn't looking.
