From what I can recall the both are AB class amps, the 450 is a little more powerful and includes a few more features, not sure it worth going for the Digital Audio Broadcasting which is not even used in the US and Canada. Last edited by BigAl87; 10-03-2014 at 12:29 AM. |

With your analogy, I should be driving 40k speakers with higher priced IAs or even separates. ![]() ![]() Class A amps are always good. Not sure how loud you really listen but if those sugdens paired adequately with the forest sigs, then go for it! Will be going to RMAF next week and will be looking out for the sugdens amo g others. |

What I am saying is basically I don't need to spend even more money on a Hi-CAP as I am not driving Raidhos, since I would like my amp to be future upgrade proof then I might go the SN-2, would give we some latitude on future speaker upgrade if ever I upgrade plus I will be able to upgrade the PSU. |

Having the option to upgrade the PS has got nothing to do with driving Raidhos or even Magicos for that matter. The point being is that, to get the most out of the SN2, adding the HC2 is the logical choice. If you don't want the temptation of spending more money on a PS, then just get an IA that has a closed design without upgradability option like the Sugden or even Simaudio so you can splurge on speakers down the road. |

![]() Look if I don't have that flexibility, of upgrading I will still be tempted to change sooner or later. might as well get an SN2 without the hi-cap for now and see where that leads me. BTW I have not seen Sugden on RMAF website. ![]() |

![]() The RMAF site is tough to navigate esp with an iphone. I have enough time there to actually look and really listen to the exhibits as I am there for 3 days so I'll keep an eye out for that Sugden. Whenever you're ready to pull the trigger on the SN2, just let me know. |

If that combo sounds so great then why aren't you driving your Raidhos with 100K stack. I'll get the SN2 and I will have some flexibility later. I'll get the hi-cap if I feel I want one. There is just no rush for me in getting an hi-cap. Now listen to Raidhos C 1 Last edited by BigAl87; 10-03-2014 at 01:32 PM. |

So late yesterday I finally got in to audition the Arcam 380 to compare with the Anthem. Thankfully they had Paradigm Studio speakers setup and ready to go.
I must say I was honestly surprised by how much I enjoyed the Arcam. It was a nice big soundstage with a basically perfect midrange (beautifully natural and detailed without any coloration) and sweet and airy high frequencies. It's a very natural sound to the whole frequency spectrum and quite precise and quick I guess you could say. Music was amazing, I don't think I've ever heard an AVR produce such a pure musical sound before this. Movies were also excellent, but not quite as amazing as music was. I found it maybe lacked a little bit of punch and authority for the bigger action movies, but subtler details and textures come through much more. The Anthem also has great detail and texture, but not quite the level that the Arcam has. However the Anthem was a bit better with the punch and attack with the big action scenes. So there are trade-offs with each receiver I guess. For music it's Arcam #1 with Anthem a noticeable bit behind, but not huge. For movies I guess you have to choose between the Arcam's more refined, subtle detail and texture, or the Anthems attack and punch, but loose a little subtlety and refinement. That said they were both not too far off from one another, but still a noticeable difference in those area's. Its up to each individuals sonic preference I guess to go from there as neither one was a bad choice, just different. I think I may be able to live with a little less punch and attack to get the detail and texture that the Arcam has over the Anthem. I found the Arcam is more true to life sound and the Anthem, while still neutral, had an added punch to it. The Arcam 380 is $2300 and the MRX 710 is $2100, but the MRX 310 is $1200 and has basically the exact same performance as the MRX 710 with the Energy speakers I will be using for the next while. So I could get away with the 310 from Anthem, but Arcam's entry level AVR380 is still $2300. I just don't know if its worth almost double the price. If the Arcam was around $1500 I would not hesitate, but I think the Anthem is better for the price. I do prefer Arcam soundwise, but pricewise I think the Anthem is a better bang for buck. I may go back for one more audition yet to make sure, unless I can get an insane deal on the Arcam, I think I will go with the MRX 310 and use the money I save to add a power amp later for more demanding speakers in the future. |

It does have pre-outs, 5.1. but they dropped the zone 2 pre-outs, which I think used to be assignable to SBR/SBL... IIRC.
