I've gotten something like that from an eBay purchase, but can't tell where it came from. Maybe I'll message that seller and ask where they got it.

Another idea is 'Pick and Pack' or 'Pick N Pluck' foam that comes in slabs with removable cubes. Haven't ever used it myself so I'm just guessing here.

I always imagined I'd go the bubble wrap route when I move, but I can see the advantage of something a little more substantial.

I've used Pick and Pluck padding before and something to be aware of is it can get messy with minuscule bits of foam that can get into crevasses. If all your SBs are in plastic wrap and/or sealed, it should be fine for short term storage/moving.

Yeah, I would only use it to keep the steelbooks from moving around. For any type of foam packaging I would wrap the steelbook in something first, whether it's an existing protector or bubble wrap.

As someone who is new to collection blu rays and movies in general ( I mostly downloaded all of my movies before) Now I want to show my appreciation to my collection and show what I really like.

When I started research the biggest problem is trying to find where to start. Blu ray format has been around forever so starting there might be just dropping into a big world of movies and collectors editions and steelbooks. So I stucked to 4k I went all the way back in 2016 and I went through every movie I felt like I would want as a steel book and I tried to find them. Now this is where things get tricky. There are tonsssss of websites like zavii that will sell you World Wide Art which is basically a region free steelbook. There are people who stick to this collection and hey thats all you. With me I stick to the steelbooks that are announced by the studio and that are mainly released in the US at the retailers. I choose this way because it kinda easy just to stick to one thing.

I honestly look on the 4k Calendar and see if a 4k steelbook is coming out and if I actually want it.

Did my eyes deceive me or did i really see a BD steenbok for Band Of Brothers? I was at Best Buy and i could swear it was a steel of the series. I was in a hurry so I didn't inspect closer. And I;m not talking about the tin. Looked in the database here and online and nothing came up.

Do you guys ever sell the digital copies from your steels to recoup some of the cost? I've contemplated this as well as possibly the Blu Ray copies that come with the 4K combos. Just was wondering how common that might be

There is an entire section on this forum for doing just that.

No question but just two observations/thoughts. It's near impossible to purchase an absolutely pristine or hit steenbok. Especially here in the US. Just opened/watched three steels over the weekend, all three had some form of damage. The Ring had very minor pain chips under the backing card. The Incredibles Had dents on each corner in the back, under the card. My German Ant-Man steel has a smell indentation in the middle backside under the card.

Also, I've gone back to the regular bags for protection cause I've noticed that over time, the hard plastic cases rub the steenboks. And trust me, I'm careful when removing them.

I used to just give mine away for free in the relevant section on here in exchange for positive seller feedback.

Had to stop doing that though as CEX would always get b*tchy with me if I would've later tried selling the steelbook, or any BD release, to them without the original DC code if I ended up not wanting the BD anymore.

With no time to sell my used stuff through eBay, that proved to be a very annoying problem, lol.

Sorry if I’m repeating or just didn’t look hard enough:

Is there a thread on here that lists all SteelBooks that also have 4K...? (Edit: or SBs that are only 4K, that’s fine too)

I try to buy all my movies in SB, but always want to snag 4K as well. I’m afraid of missing limited runs, so would love to have a place to check frequently, and even contribute to.

Can someone explain to me what the Blu fans, kimchi, manta lab, etc. thing is all about? Is it as simple as a private party that makes their own packaging in limited quantity so the price is driven up and they are collectable for that reason? Is one consider 'better' than the other?

Not a private group situation. They are companies. They are all considered “premium” products because they do the work themselves to create the artwork and get tye studios to approve that artwork for production. Standard retailers just sell what the studios give them. So, the extra cost offsets the extra work being done to create the artwork.

Don't forget to mention that some are packed with extras such as cards, posters and whatnot.

Default How to get rid of residue on Steelbook

For some reason I can’t upload any pics from iPad but I had a permanent marker Autograph removed from a Steelbook and it was removed with an eraser pen but now I can’t get rid of the residue which look like some greasy lines. I tried rubbing alcohol and no luck. Any recommendations?
