Speaking of UT...........how about that last second? McCoy did take a bad chance at that last play. Especially in a game where the refs seemed to be against UT the whole time. He's lucky they reversed that decision and gave UT that one second back. What was really funny, I was in a bar FULL of UT fans watching this game. At the end, every UT fan in there went though every single range of emotions. From sad, depressed, and pissed to OMG OMG OMG I can't believe we won!!!! Texas v. Alabama...............National Championship.........we're so gonna have our asses handed to us...... |

This year is a year where there needs to be a playoff more than ever. Not ONE team is undisputed championship game material.
Yes, yes...Alabama dominated Florida. But both Alabama and Florida had very weak outings, and that's without even getting into the SEC ref controversy. Texas sucked in its biggest games. Cincinnati's biggest wins in conference are over West Virginia and Pittsburgh. Pittsburgh didn't win a big game all year, and WV's only big win was over Pitt. At least they beat Oregan State. But again, in spite of playing for the PAC-10 championship, Oregan State's big games were all losses (except Cal). TCU dominated its schedule, but in a year when the MWC seemed less impressive than the last few years. Boise State probably had the best single victory of any team outside of Texas/Alabama, over Oregon. But what does one game on week 1 prove? It's too bad then that none of these teams will be able to stand up and say "We beat everybody to come out ahead". Instead we have this crap we have now. |

Very well said. Until we get a playoff system in place, preferably a sixteen team, we will never have a true national champion in college football. It has worked so well for so long in FCS, I'll never understand why it's not in place in FBS yet. It's mind boggling, after the current BCS contract expires we MUST MUST MUST go to a playoff system.

That was just a crazy game from start to finish. Interceptions leading to interceptions instead of points, stalled drives left and right, 3rd and 30 to go here and there, horrible sportsmanship with chop blocks on Suh (I wonder how long the announcers practice saying peoples names before the game to make sure they get them right). If Texas had this many problems with Nebraska though, I don't see them taking Alabama out in the Championship. I'll still be rooting for them because I loathe Saban. |

Nervous about the BCS announcements tonight. Most experts are predicting Iowa goes to a BCS bowl but it's not out of the question that Penn State could get in over them. I don't really understand it. Iowa might be the best traveling team in the country, and if they played in the Fiesta Bowl there'd be at least 60,000 Iowa fans down there. Arizona has a huge population of Iowans, and the fans will go anywhere warm in early January. When Iowa made the Orange Bowl there were 48,000 fans in Florida. I would hope they'd look at the fact that Iowa won at Penn State and Penn State didn't have a quality win all year.

so the fact that it was correct means nothing? officials make adjustments and/or review this kind of thing at the end of games. Usually its as simple as 'please put xx seconds on the game clock' but because of the gravity of the situation they reviewed it.
remember, time keepers make mistakes all the time, from letting the clock run too long, or stopping it too quickly. I was rooting for Nebraska, I like BCS chaos, but they got it right. |

Officiating has just been horrible all season, but this one really chaps my ass. There really needs to be something done about the consistency of calls. For example, the helmet to helmet call. Some games they'll call it even when it isn't actually helmet to helmet, then others there will be tons of blatantly obvious helmet to helmet hits and they call nothing. everybody always has to bag on the officials
![]() If they hadn't reviewed it, the other half of the fans would be saying "what's the point in having replay if you don't use it during the most important parts of the game." Having done quite a bit of reffing in my time, there is a tremendous difference between the letter of the rules, and the INTENT of the rules. |

I can't help but think they were trying to make up for last year for Texas, even though they were just standing by the rules then. And Texas fans conveniently forgot that they lost to Texas Tech. Last edited by broganreynik; 12-06-2009 at 05:12 PM. |

Ok, let's use the Florida State-Miami game of this year. They called an incomplete pass on the last play, and there was still a second left on the clock when the ball hit, but time expired. Game over. That's what the freakin' rules are for.

I don't know if the game should have been over. According to Dan Beebe, the Big 12 head of officials, it was the correct call to add a second, although he didn't actually see the play. Regardless, I can't believe how stupid Texas and McCoy were to run that play the way they did. Here's an interesting story about Nebraska's anger about the play. http://www.omaha.com/article/2009120...9849/-1/bigred |
