Time travel is some serious business in this thread.

Anyway, I'm thinking of buying this book. Saw it today at Barnes & Noble and browsed through it but I might order it from Amazon to save a few bucks if I can wait another week for it but all this temporal theory has me going crazy so I might just break down and pick it up. Looks like it covers a lot of what we've been discussing here.

wow
thats a real book?
i'd read that

once you get it you'll have to report back with if its a good read or not

I don't think the problem was with T3, but with Sarah's supposed success in T2 that pushed back J-day.

The grandfather paradox doesn't dictate an alternate timeline, but rather the impossibility that one's destiny can be changed by altering the past events that are part of the series of cause and effect relationships that led to one's destiny.

From the beginning, Skynet has proven itself stupid by thinking it can change its destiny by killing Sarah and thus preventing John from coming into existence.

Since then, the franchise had not been very good with observing causality nuances in any sensible way. That doesn't mean it wasn't fun seeing Kyle work hard with the odds stacked against him, or the governator take up the mantle.

I just went back and watch T3, I like it better than I thought I did. The terminators gun in the future scenes sounded weak compared to the ones in two.

Hey guys, this thread is to big to die!

Here's Arnold talking about his favorite and worst movies he thinks he's done and he comments of T4 as well. There's an ad before the video. Click the pic

That's it.
That pretty much nails it on the head.

The entire series was supposed to end with T2, and leave the viewer wondering if it did happen or not, and some nimrod in Hollywood decided that there was still money to be had and we get T3 which has a writer that doesn't have a clue how to spell temporal mechanics, let alone what it means and voila, we have brain teasers.

Saw this when I was in Las Vegas this past week. Pretty good mindless fun. The nod to Arnold was cool. Thought the ending scenario
[Show spoiler] to save John's life
was beyond ridiculous lol.

This movie will look and sound awesome on Blu-ray. Won't help some of the acting though lol Thought Sam Worthington did a good job. I'd like to see him come back. Bale was ok but has become one of the actors who plays themselves in every film.

Terminator Salvation was ok; better than Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines. CGI Arnold's face looked like a white Hulk.

Depending on what time travel theory you subscribe to, the nail thing makes sense.

but like you say, in the context of the terminator series, which is a predestination time travel universe, the nail would in fact already be there

*sigh*

I was hoping for a decent intellectual read but this is so ridiculous that it's almost pure hilarity. Maybe I should have picked up that physics book I saw on real time travel theories instead. This is nonsense.
But, would Skynet truly become self-aware at all if Sarah Connor didn't get pregnant? Maybe some techie named Hank fixed a glitch which made Skynet become stable and man lived in peace?

How did Skynet even become aware in the first place and decide in a nanosecond that we all had to die?

the AI became self-aware before going online i believe
atleast that is what is implied in T3 what with the virus infecting everything and all so that skynet knew they would activate it to get rid of the virus (though it itself was the virus)

it just had to wait to be put in control of the US computer systems since it was self-aware but not as intelligent/powerful as it would become yet

I think that he actually admitted and named films he thought that he was involved in was interesting. Most will admit to having in been in bad films, but rarely do they actually name them and call them torturous to watch. Kudos for the honesty (possibly even adds some wieght when he says he felt Terminator Salvation was very good).
