It was Hurley - at least I believe so.

Go back and listen to it - episode 5 or 6 of season 5. When Rousseau and her team find Jin on the beach.

Listen closely . . . it's totally Hurley.

Here is more proof:
In one of his last podcasts, Jorge said he was asked to record Hurley saying the numbers - and it just so happened to be around the time they filmed that episode. Here is the transcript (Beth is/was his girlfriend)

Beth: Here's a big one. Was it Hurley reading the numbers when the French team crashed on the beach?

Jorge: Oh, that's a good question. It definitely sounded like me. I definitely, at one point, recorded the numbers.

Beth: At one point around the time when they were filming that episode?

Jorge: After they were filming it. I think, after they had filmed it.

Beth: ADR, yeah.

Jorge: And that's all I can really say there. There was never anything about.

Beth: It was. It was.

Jorge: I mean, are they asking if it was my voice on the recording?

Beth: Yes, yes

Jorge: I'm pretty sure it was.

Beth: A million people have asked, was it Hurley saying the numbers?

Jorge: I'm sure it was.

Thanks for the clarification re: Chang, I couldn't remember.

The others knew all about what sawyer did so it isn't far fetched to assume the spirits/souls knew.

I get the feeling you have the answer to everything about LOST - as if there is nothing that bothers you at all, and everything is perfectly rational. lol

It is never ever said that whispers are only people that have died on the island.

It was definetly the guy that Sawyer killed.

Or more importantly where does it say you cant become a whisper if you havent been on the island?

Anyone can become a whisperer.

Michael confirms Hurley's questions that the whisperers are the ones who can't move on from the island.

If you think it makes sense for someone who never went to the island to be stuck on the island and whispering, so be it.

I so wish that was true and what I say is only my take on it, Am sure you could get several answers to each question asked about lost.

One thing I did notice in the early stages of season was, Was a kind of magical sounds now and again when some body was out walking the Island.

You can hear it in the Episode " Walkabout" just before the boar attacks and injures Michael, Was never really sure what that was for, If anything and why they stopped doing it.

One of the writers of LOST wrote on a forum the fuselage in season 2 that the whispers would be an important part of the endgame of LOST.

Whispers are people who cant move on.

The endgame is people moving on.

Made up as they went along indeed.

Well some people cant overcome what they have done, so they cant move on yet.

I always figured the whispering Sawyer heard was those who died on the island, but that it was mixed with some of his own personal thoughts/voices (dominated by his guilt of wrongfully killing that guy). That's just the way I took it. That shrimp truck guy wouldn't have any reason to be caught in the island limbo IMO...

I think the writers should be ashamed of themselves. These poor folks are still out their looking for clues/proof that the writers knew what they were doing from the beginning.

"Listen, the calculator/printer sounds like the smoke monster. . . which makes perfect sense when you think about it, cause MiB loved arithmetic". . .

Locke and Jacks arc have been written in stone since season 1. Its obvious.

They used the same damn noise smokey makes. Why would they do that!?

Jack was originally written to die at the end of "The Pilot". ABC liked the character and basically demanded that his role be rewritten. His arc has never been written in stone. It's obvious.

Dude, I know.

Im not saying its all been in stone since the pilot. But their two arcs were figured out during season 1 and most definetly before season 2.
